Frictional Games have revealed that their science-fiction horror game will be coming to PlayStation 4 and PC on 22nd September. To celebrate the announcement of the release date, the company have unveiled 12 minutes of gameplay footage.
SOMA will see players stuck on a remote research facility where machines are beginning to take on human traits, and if that wasn’t unsettling enough then there are alien constructions which are starting to turn things into a nightmare for the protagonist.
The footage in the video takes place around an hour into the game and shows that the atmosphere is very eerie. The developer has confirmed that there will be a lot more to explore in the level, emphasising that robot attacks can be avoided by acting differently. My impression of the gameplay trailer is that it very much looks like a cross between Alien: Isolation and Bioshock, both of which terrify me deeply. I think this will be a ‘play with the lights on’ game.

This looks very promising, and if it’s only half as good as Alien:Isolation was, I’ll play this for months.
