343 Industries has released new information regarding the REQ system that will be part of Halo 5: Guardian’s multiplayer, including the costs of the various packs that can be purchased in game. The REQ packs give different rewards in the game like weapons, armour, and vehicles. Every player will get 7500 REQ points to spend at the beginning but then must accumulate additional points for packs, as well as 54 REQ cards.
This can be done in two ways and that is either earning the points through matches, or by buying packs from the store. Each match will give on average 2000 points meaning you can buy the REQ packs quite often. The costs are as follows.
- Bronze REQ Pack will cost 1250 points.
- Silver REQ Pack will cost 5000 points/$1.99
- Gold REQ Pack will cost 10000 points/$2.99
At launch there will 1000 REQ cards to collect and as time goes on more will be added into the game. Bonus REQ packs can also be earned by levelling up Spartan Rank and completing Commendation challenges.

so selling in game cards is the new thing in microtransactions then?
oh, joy.
i could understand if it was a Magic The Gathering game, but an fps?
or even a football game.
it’s kind of sad that more “gamers” complained about the inclusion of women’s teams than did about the introduction of a card game into fifa.
of course the cards in this particular game won’t have any affect on me, if/when i do get an X1, and Halo 5, i won’t be bothering with the competitive multiplayer.

Seems like a very passive plan. With a match giving 2000 average, it just means incentive to grind for anyone that’s interested in that sort of thing. With a certain rank/XP rating required for certain REQ gear as well, I can’t imagine many will dive into their real world wallets for this.

It seems well balanced, but it’s a shame they felt the need to monetize the system at all.
