Dying Light: Enhanced Edition Announced, Update Free For Current Owners

Techland have chosen a different route for their Game of the Year Enhanced Edition of the massive smash hit, Dying Light. Rather than simply pack the game with all the previous DLC, including the forthcoming The Following pack, they have gone back to the orginal game and added a load of new content.

“We didn’t want to follow a beaten track and just re-release our game in a new wrapping with the current DLC added on – explains Maciej Binkowski, lead game designer. “That’s why for the last half year we’ve been working on a ton of enhancements that we’re now going to make available to everyone. We’re adding bonus post-game content, a Nightmare difficulty level, nearly 100 new animations, new NPC models, advanced AI behaviors, and more. One year after the original release, Dying Light will be even bigger.”

The good news is that if you already own Dying Light, all the enhancements will be available for free as part of an update. These include:

  • Legend System
  • Nightmare Difficulty
  • Bounties System
  • New Parkour Moves
  • New Enemy Attacks & Behaviors
  • #DrinkForDLC Content
  • New NPC Models
  • Enhanced Facial Expressions
  • Improved Human Enemy AI
  • Improved Volatile AI
  • Greater Firearm Variety
  • HUD and Video Filter Customizations
  • Audio Upgrades
  • Gameplay Quality Improvements
  • Console Performance Upgrades
  • Overall Game Look and Feel Improvements

The Enhanced Edition will launch on the same day as The Following DLC, February 9th, 2016.

  1. They have been one of the stand-out developers this year for looking after the community. Top effort.

  2. Sounds like stuff they should have put in ages ago in other updates.

How much is the real DLC going to cost? So far we’ve got what appears to be a lazy and predictable horde mode (I hate that nonsense) for £7.99 and a season pass for a ridiculous £24.99. Which is more than the game costs now.

    • The Following has a play area bigger than the original game and that is part of the season pass. Also you can mow down zombies in a buggy. This is worth £24.99 alone :P

    • Well, working towards a single target is a much more efficient use of time, testing and approval than posting smaller incremental updates, but it’s not as if they haven’t added things like Hard Mode to the game in patches since release. Some of these additions seem smaller than others, but there’s also an awful lot of stuff like adding new character models which is very unusual for a GOTY/Remaster/Enhanced Edition, let alone a patch.

The DLC is going to cost £16, which is the current price of the season pass – it’s £16, not £25. However, that’s down to the scale of the expansion, and they explained a week or so ago that, because of this, the season pass is going to go up in price in the next couple of days.

      • No, the season pass is £24.99. Unless Sony have buggered up the price on the store. And the price is going up??

Killing zombies with a buggy sounds good, but what I really want is to be able to kill them with a lawnmower. (Mainly because I like Peter Jacksons early films, before people started giving him money)

  3. Well done.
