With Pokémon itself celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the series is broadening its horizons with a straight up one on one fighting game, Pokkén Tournament. The play on words in the title kind of gives away that this is a mash-up between the world of Pokémon and the gameplay of the Tekken series, with Bandai Namco the developers.
Previously only slated for a “spring 2016” release on Wii U, Nintendo have been able to narrow that down to a launch on March 18th in Europe, which neatly matches up with the launch on the same date that was already announced for Japan.
They’ve also announced that those buying the game within the first production run will receive a Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card, which can be used to unlock that character in the game.
