Overkill’s The Walking Dead Game Won’t Release Until Second Half Of 2017

Overkill’s version of a The Walking Dead game was first announced in the middle of 2014, and it is to be a co-operative experience with cues taken from the PayDay franchise. A teaser trailer was released at the last E3 too, but then news of the game dried up. Today Starbreeze Studios, the company that owns Overkill, announced that The Walking Dead game will now not release until the latter half of 2017.

OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead will be expanded with more content where an Asian version will be developed for simultaneous launch with the western version. To maximize the new opportunities, Starbreeze, 505 Games and Skybound have decided to release the game in all markets during the second half of 2017.

The announcement comes as the Korean company Smilegate invested 344m Swedish Krona, or approximately £28 million/$40 million, in Starbreeze. As part of the deal Starbreeze has gained the rights to publish Smilegate’s Crossfire online shooter in western markets. The deal will also see Payday 2 launched on Smilegate’s service in the Asian market.
