What We Played #237: Black Ops 3, Homeworld & This War Of Mine

Winter finally brought some cold weather this week, after a December which was miserable through being wet, rather than frigid. So I hope you’ve been bundled up warm on your daily commutes and excursions out into the freezing cold.

Or maybe you just stayed in and played games? Over last weekend, I got to sample some of Dying Light: The Following, both for a preview and a video, but did so between guiding my land carrier through the desert in Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak for review, and I finished playing the quite excellent Danganronpa. This week also gave me the chance to try my hand at Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, and while I didn’t have a clue what was going on, I had a bit of fun with it and Dom helped to explain some stuff to me.

Dom’s been playing lots, as he continued on with Rise of the Tomb Raider and Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, but there was also a look at Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty as it arrived on PS Vita, and he explored something else that’s under embargo.

Embargoes are why Dave was so quiet last week, but he’s able to gab about playing Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster and a bit of Dragon Quest Heroes this time around. He also said he wanted to continue playing Fallout 4, but that his missus has been monopolising the console and TV to play it herself!

Miguel, after working through Binary Domain, Yakuza and Splatoon for the past few weeks wanted a little more co-operative fun in his life. So he grabbed the new Black Ops 3 and has played it nonstop since, saying that it’s really sunk its claws into him, much moreso than the previous ones.

It’s been a more emotionally draining week for Aran, who played This War of Mine: The Little Ones for review, rating it as one of the best survival games yet. He’s lightened the mood a bit since then with The Tower of Deadly Monsters and its 50s B movie inspirations, but he needs a little bit more time before you’ll see his review of Death By Game Show.

Jim’s continued to plug away at The Witcher III, heading off from Novigrad to Skellige, and it looks like he still has quite a journey ahead of him. His experiments with The Elder Scrolls Online weren’t quite as engrossing, so he and his housemates have ventured into Destiny: The Taken King, but though he’s enjoying his time with the expansion, he feels that not everything has changed for the better.

Finally, in stark contrast to the wealth of gaming above, Tuffcub’s dedication to visiting the gym a few times a week has sapped his gaming time. He’s only played Life Is Strange while at home, but has been able to play New ‘n’ Tasty and Volume when he’s commuting.

And now it’s over to you. What have you been playing this past week?
