What We Played #242 The Division, The Witness & Halo 5

It’s that time of the week again, and with Friday finally here you can embark once more on a weekend of gaming goodness. It’s always nice to round the week out though by asking what you’ve played, and what we’ve played, because, well, we like games. And we’re nosy.

Dave was the first to check in this week, and his continued to give his 3DS a walloping by essentially 100% completing Bravely Second (review). In between all that handheld RPGing, he found time for some further walloping of Street Fighter V (review), Far Cry Primal, and a bit of an Early Access foray on PC for his Acaratus preview. Meanwhile, he also watched his missus befriend robot pirates on the USS Constitution in Fallout 4, which he thought was “fascinating”. God Dave! Girls can play games too! Honestly, such a misogynist…

After preparing his body last week Miguel finally had the games he’s been lusting after these many months. With Street Fighter V being “fun”, Fire Emblem Fates being “funner”, and The Division beta being “funnest”. While for one thing we may have to re-evaluate our review scoring system – no, wait, isn’t that the same as Eurogamer? – despite that funnest rating he’s going to hold off diving into The Division for fear of another Destiny situation. He doesn’t elaborate, but I’m sure he doesn’t have to worry – The Division will undoubtedly keep its magical cave full of beanie hats.

Tuffcub has made no mention of the gym, at least not in the email he sent me. However, I did taunt him with pictures of cakes – which I may point out were protein-infused – so perhaps that’s why his missive is so short. However, it could also be because he’s been playing a super-secret little space game, where multi-coloured dinosaurs may or may not appear on planets that may or may not be there, depending on the tides and the moon. Or something. He’s also playing Heavy Rain on PS4, with a torrent of words likely to be falling from the heavens any day now. Well it makes a change from drip-feeding us information.

One of our TSA Podcast team has kindly dropped in on us, and Kev has been playing a whole load of The Witness (review), though with Nom Nom Galaxy freshly downloaded that’s likely to be his target this weekend which sounds pretty tasty!

Cael has been heading further down the rabbit hole. By this I mean he’s spent a lot of time in the university library…. playing Persona 4 Golden. While this may not be a conventional way to get a Masters Degree, he does at least see the irony; “Oddly I spend time studying in the game to do well in virtual education… Whilst sat in an educational institution based in reality.” If only all degrees merely required you to get good at a particular game… my PHD in Sega Rally should be here any day now.

Taking a trip back to the Stone Age, Jim got the week started with some Far Cry Primal (review) and hopes to clean up what few trophies remain. Speaking of trophies, he accidentally stumbled upon Rocket League’s platinum while also having bagged the top prize in Hitman GO (review) as well. One platinum trophy he can forget about, however, is that which belongs to Street Fighter V. Despite having hated the last game in Capcom’s flagship series, he’s really getting into it and hopes to make it a regular in his short list of go-to multiplayer titles.

As for me, I’ve been trying to close out some of my half-finished games which finally saw me finish Halo 5, with Rise Of The Tomb Raider nearly done as well. Beyond that I’ve been trundling through The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, Action Henk and Pokkén Tournament for a few forthcoming reviews as well as making time for some musou manga action in Arslan: The Warriors Of Legend (review). It’s the first Dynasty Warriors style game I’ve played for a little while and I’m greatly enjoying it so far, which bodes well as I’ve still got Dragon Quest Heroes sat in its wrapper.

But! Enough about us! What have you been playing?

  1. I’ve played 16 hours of Far Cry Primal apparently! Currently at 47%. It’s great, my only criticism is that some of the caves are too disorientating. Got stuck in one for 15 minutes trying to get out, lol!

  2. I also like the content light Street Fighter V despite not liking previous version. I once been playing GTA 3, a little bit of Helldiver’s, a little bit of FIFA but my most notable note I got into Trackmania Turbo and absolutely fell in love with it. Now I have that preordered on Ps Store. I can’t wait for the release now.

  3. Played Fallout 4 and got the platinum, whoop! That left a hole so I fired up Just Cause 3. I bought PVZ 2 and have had a couple of hours just running around the hub area. Had quite a bit of fun.

  4. Started the week again with Borderlands with R1MJAW an Forrest some EDF with R1M on Tuesday,Wednesday Destiny with Forrest an Toutski in-between has been several hours of Far Cry Primal which i’m really enjoying, some Driveclub and Four Kings Casino and Slots with Trackmania thrown in which is a definite by for me,PvZ:GW2 which is great fun as expected some Bit.Trip Runner2 and tonight should be more Borderlands with the chaps.

  5. Well, if you take Friday as the first day of the week based upon the WWP article (& why the hell wouldn’t you?), I have this week platinumed both Need for Speed & Dying Light (swiftly trading both in for maximum possible return) & have made progress on Batman Arkham Knight & think I am now approaching the end game. Don’t think I can really be bothered playing through it again for the platinum though, so may just complete it & get that traded too. At this stage, the HDD space is more precious to me than another platinum to add to the tally.

May just retrieve the HDD space & return it to the backlog to pick up another day, but the likelihood is that I simply won’t return to it. Not that it isn’t good, it is, but I just have so many other things to be playing.

Other than that, the week has mainly been the usual Monday Presequel & nightfalls in Destiny on Wednesday & that’s pretty much about it.

  6. A quick stint on the Division public beta and some short goes at Black Ops 3 SP & MP but otherwise not a lot.

  7. The usual Borderlands Pre Sequel with Pixel and Forrest, and a bit solo to finish off the last trophy I needed to bag myself the platinum.
    Lots more Diablo.
Still plugging away at Rayman Legends.
A quick dabble in Four Kings Casino.
    Some more EDF.
Tried the Trackmania Turbo beta … absolutely love it, March 24th can’t come fast enough.

  8. After completing the ‘last’ level in Unravel, i discovered another room with more levels so i completed them too. I then returned to Leo’s Fortune which i had stopped playing halfway through and completed that too.
More Fallout 4 and still no end in sight, although i’ll have to move on from it soon as i have other games i’m itching to start playing.
Some more Driveclub and Binding of Isaac and i also tried the Four Kings casino, it didn’t appeal to me so i blew my chips and left.

    • I’ve given up on Unravel. Found it really irritating.

      • There were a few fiendishly tricky sections which almost made me quit Unravel too but i somehow muddled through.

Completely forgot i also played the Division beta. It looked pretty good but after my time with it i don’t think a 3rd-person cover-shooter RPG is what i’m really looking for. I died too many times in the subway morgue mission for it to still be enjoyable, possibly i wasn’t leveled up enough for it but it felt like too much hard work to get to the end. I won’t say that i’ll never play it but for now it’s not going to distract me from my backlog.

  9. I’ve had a really good week with very good games throughout.
First, I played the Division Beta last weekend, enjoying it quite a bit, although match making didn’t really work. And I was kicked out of a mission right towards the end as I fell through the map, and ‘leaving’ the mission area meant aborting the whole mission… Still, it was promising and I’ll definitely keep an eye on it.
On the Vita, I finally finished the story, i.e. all stories, of Virtue’s Last Reward, which was excellent. I highly recommend this little gem, I’ve not experienced anything alike storytelling-wise in a game.
Finally, I wanted to have a quick look at Infamous Second Son, working on my backlog, and this turned out to be surprisingly good, looks and plays well, and the different super powers are quite cool..! :o)

    • I really enjoyed Secon Son, first Infamous game i’ve played to the end.

      • I’ve got the first one for free from Sony, not quite sure anymore why, but I’ve liked it and finished it. The second was on Plus, but I didn’t like it at all, so stopped after an hour or so. Second Son seems the best one out of the series (although I’m only about 70% in).

      • First Infamous was offered free after PSN being down for ages after hack.

      • Yep, that was it, you’re right, I got it together with excellent Dead Nation…

  10. Played destiny for the most part this week. Three level 40s now. Looking forward to this years expansion however as I’m a bit bored of the same missions and strikes (I don’t play raids).

Got all the trophies for Titan attacks too and started another playthrough of re6 as I edge closer to platinum
