Last week, Bungie showed off some of the new challenges and things to do that are being added to the game in the April 12th update, but they kept their lips sealed on the new kinds of loot and gear that you’d be able to earn in the game. That was saved to be at the heart of a second live stream that occurred yesterday evening.
With an increased light level cap of 335, which is up from 320 in The Taken King, Bungie have made sure that there’s plenty of stuff to work towards. There’s two new styles gear being added, with Taken-themed gear that’s bound to be very popular, and other gear being updated with Chroma, that lets you have neon lights on your armour.
These can be earned through a new Sterling Treasures system, which can be used each week to earn up to three new items. These come from visiting the Postmaster after a weekly reset, successfully completing a Level 41 Prison of Elders activity and completing a match in the featured Weekly Crucible Playlist. You can also buy additional Sterling Treasures from Tess Everis’ microtransaction store.
Faction packages will also contain Chroma-enabled legendary gear that goes up to 330 Light, while Prison of Elders legendary gear is also Chroma-enabled and goes up to the new maximum of 335 Light in the Challenge of the Elders mode.
The ability to infuse gear continues, so that you can upgrade and continue to use that favourite gun you own without suffering from a lower light level, but this has now been altered so that the infused gear goes to the exact light level of the consumed item, instead of losing a certain percentage.
Bungie are also updating another bunch of exotics from Year One, including (thanks, Reddit):
- Universal Remote
- Patience and Time
- Queenbreaker’s Bow
- Dreg’s Promise
- Lord of Wolves
- Purifier Robes
- Sunbreakers
- Khepri’s Sting
- Lucky Raspberry
- ATS/8 Arachnid
- ACD/0 Feedback Fence
- Glasshouse
- Eternal Warrior
Finally, they took the wraps off an updated companion app which adds native support for iPads – about f-ing time, Bungie! – as well as a search function for your gear and improved quest and bounty tracking.
Next week’s stream focusses on Bungies efforts with Live Updates, but if you want to watch what Bungie showed off yesterday, you can click play below:
