Bethesda Reveal A Psychological Reboot Of Prey

Bethesda took to the BE3 stage in Los Angeles to announce a reboot of the critically acclaimed Prey franchise. Developed by Dishonored creator Arkane Studios, the game is pegged as a psychological thriller where you find yourself aboard the Talus 1 space-station which has been overrun by an unnamed alien threat. Armed with your, wits, weapons and mind-bending abilities it’s up to you to discover the secrets that the station holds.

Set in 2032, the trailer has a Groundhog day feel to it, with the protagonist Morgan Yu repeatedly waking to the same day before being taken for experimentation by some shadowy figures. You then get a taste of the game’s possible combat with symbiote-esque alien enemies that can seemingly get a hold of you in a very similar manner to Marvel’s Venom.

It’s a very new direction for the series, though following the original sequel’s cancellation in 2014, it’s likely that Bethesda thought it best to make a fresh start. If they can at least recapture some of the atmosphere and outlook of the 2006 original then hopefully they’ll be able to gain fans both old and new.

With a wide open release date of 2017, and no confirmed platforms, hopefully we’ll find out more about this promising title sooner rather than later.

  1. Between this and Quake I’m not sure if E3 Bingo just got super fruity because of Bethesda. I remember some high scoring options which I though were never going to happen. Kudos to Bethesda for surprising us.

    • They were both rumoured a couple days before the bingo though. And I believe, just 2 or 3 points.
