Something For The Weekend – 22/10/16

Red Dead Redemption 2’s announcement was the highlight of my week! What was your highlight, perhaps it was a certain announcement from Nintendo about a new console?

In the News This Week

Games in Review

It’s been a while since we’ve had a 10/10, but from what I hear, it’s a worthy winner.

This Week’s Features

Stefan kicked off the week with a look at Cities: Skylines – Natural Disasters. The game has gone from strength to strength since it’s launch, and you can see his hands on with the expansion here. If city building is a bit too slow paced for you, then perhaps a video of Titanfall 2’s multiplayer is more up your street. And, if you’re interested in the game, then you’ll probably be interested in Stefan’s take on the best thing in the game: the guns.

If you picked up Battlefield 1 yesterday, then you can get the low-down on the best gun in the game, according to Tef, but if the singleplayer is what you’re more into, then his insightful interview with the devs at DICE is worth checking out.

Going up against this year’s Battlefield is Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Although it was just the other week we were hearing Jim praising Modern Warfare Remastered, Infinite Warfare is not his cup of tea. Meanwhile, he also looked at Vermintide, calling it “one of the best, most unique, co-op games on the market”.

Elsewhere, Dave had a look at Atlas Reactor which he described as “XCOM meets Frozen Synapse meets Overwatch”, while Aran got to grips with Bound in PSVR.

Moving on, Dom has been playing Rise of the Tomb Raider 20 Year Celebration’s Blood Ties, a ‘genuinely unique’ VR mission that allows you to explore Croft Manor, and also weighs in on the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo are trying an interesting strategy with a portable console that works just as well at home as it does on the Tube, but do you think it’s a console capable of competing with Sony and Microsoft?

Finally, this week’s What We Played featured Pokémon, Civilization VI, and Battlefield 1.

Your Achievements

After a quiet couple of weeks, you trophy hunters are out in force again!

TSBonyman is working his way through No Man’s Sky, and is just one trophy away from the platinum, while MrYd added the platinum for Odin Sphere Leifthrasir to his cabinet.

R1MJAW has finished off all of the single player trophies for GTA V, and sets his eyes firmly on the online trophies that are standing in the way of the platinum. He also found time to get the platinum for Peggle 2, and completed the 2 dlc masters.

Mafia III has only been out a couple of weeks, but tactical20 has completed it, 500 collectables and all. Shame there wasn’t a trophy for it! Pixel_nme also completed the game, but the number of bugs has put him off going back for the platinum right now.

And lastly, TheLoneSteven completed Red Faction: Guerilla and gave us his verdict on it: “Average story, forgettable soundtrack but a decent game”.

  1. The highlight of my week…em… no new games that I want so I can keep on playing DriveClub VR. At first I feeling a bit queasy as the visuals weren’t quite right. But then I noticed a few tiny smudges right in the middle of one of the lenses. After a good careful clean I tried the HMD again and what a difference. I’ve spent a lot of my time in ‘single event’ trying the different cars. When looking round the cars I’ve found the interiors are a lot better than what I was expecting and the replays with your avatar driving with you in the passenger seat is pretty good too.
