Kicking off the game’s second year of content and post-release support, Operation Velvet Shell is going live today in Rainbow Six Siege. As with all the updates last year, it adds one new map and two new operators.

As always, all of this content is available for free, with the new map slotting into the game’s playlist today as though it was there all along. However, the two new operators, coming from Spain’s Grupo Especial de Operaciones, can be obtained in two ways. They’re automatically unlocked today for those with the Year 2 Season Pass, or they can be bought individually from 14th February using the Renown in game currency you earn from playing or micro-transaction R6 Credits.

They’re described by Ubisoft as follows:

  • Mira has proven her strength and endurance in tactical situations, but her best asset is her technical expertise. Her specialty is creating Black Mirrors, nearly indestructible horizontal one-way windows that can be punched into barricades or destructible walls. Combined with the Vector 45 ACP and ITA12L as her primary weapons, enemies can rapidly go from “spotted” to “dead.”
  • Jackal has developed his expertise in tracking down High Value Targets and intercepting narcotics shipments with the G.E.O.s. Equipped with the C7E and PDW9 as primary weapons, Jackal can also activate his Eyenox Model III headset to track enemy footprints. The more recent the prints, the “hotter” they’ll appear in Jackal’s view, so if you see bright red bootprints, there’s likely an enemy nearby!

  1. Excited as ever for this and especially the new defensive character.

  2. Great news. Between this and the GoW4 update, that’s my multiplayer fix sorted.
