The Johto Region Update Will Add Over 80 New Pokemon In Pokemon GO This Week

Last year Pokemon GO seemed to dominate headlines for a time before being an app that seemed less and less spoken about. That will probably change this week as Niantic has confirmed that more than 80 more Pokemon will be added, bringing Gen 2 to the mix. These Pokemon are from the Johto region and there first game appearances were in Pokemon Gold and Silver.

New evolutions will be added too so any Pokemon you currently have could be evolved. The Pokestops will occasionally dish out items that can be used to evolve your Pokemon. New berry types are being added too with Nanab berries slowing creatures down, while Pinap berries will double the candy you get from a catch. New avatar items will be added too so there are more ways to customise the way they look.

A precise date for the rollout has not been given.

  1. Good.

I’d already caught all 151 you can catch in Europe right now.

It would be nice if you could get the other regional exclusives and of course a shot at the legendaries too.

    • How did you manage that?! My son and I struggle, bless him. Only option to get anything new seems to be to level up first but that takes ages (currently level 23).

We probably get one random new one pop up once a month and that’s it!

We don’t really use lures to be fair but do regularly go to different places. At least this update should keep it interesting for a while.

      • Eggs, eggs and more eggs.

Best way to get rare Pokemon, candy to evolve Pokemon and dust to power them up. My last few new ones were all from eggs- Chansey, Lapras and the babies last month.

I don’t use many lures myself (rarely in a position to sit still for half an hour, usually out in the cold) but just found myself hitting level 31.

The tip for leveling up is to not bother evolving unless you have a lucky egg. I tend to let my Pidgeys mount up until I can’t carry many more Pokemon, then evolve them all at once with a lucky egg for double XP. The egg last half an hour and you can fit a lot of evolutions into that time if you’re determined enough.

Also try to be in as many gyms as possible- you can get 100 free coins a day if you hold ten (or more if you want a safety blanket) which equals two free incubators every three days.

And don’t forget to walk something you want to evolve as your buddy! I usually walk either Magikarp or Dratini as you need so many candies to evolve to Gyarados and the Dratini candies are super rare.

  2. Recently it seems I’ve been able to get a load of new Pokemon (managed four new ones this week).

Will be nice to see some actual new ones out and about.
