The Long Dark Makes Its Way To PS4 On August 1st

Hinterland has announced that its exploratory survival title The Long Dark will be releasing on PS4 on August 1st, allowing players on the platform to test their wits and see how long they can survive in the Canadian wilderness after society has been knocked back. Players will have to manage all their resources from food, clothing, tools, and shelter while battling against the cold, the wildlife, thirst, starvation, and disease.

The Long Dark will have two modes when it launches on PS4. The first is the survival mode in 50 square kilometres of wilderness, while the second is an episodic story mode called Wintermute. Wintermute is set soon after the collapse with the characters Will Mackenzie and Dr. Astrid Greenwood learning to survive after their plane crashes. There will be five Wintermute episodes with each being about five hours long. The first two are titled Do Not Go Gentle and Luminance Fugue, and will be available at launch. The other three are planned to release through 2017 and 2018.

From the heady days of the Mega Drive up until the modern day gaming has been my main hobby. I'll give almost any game a go.

  1. Just watched a bit of survival mode gameplay and it seems the 50²kms is split into a number of discreet areas which connect sequentially, each providing progressively more difficult challenges. I’m guessing that the story episodes will follow suit and provide more challenge with each new episode. I’ll certainly add it to my list of games to keep an eye on.
