Deep Silver Confirms Dead Island 2 Is Still Happening

Remember Dead Island 2? It was announced at E3 2014 for a Spring 2015 release, and there was even a hands on preview for it from a build by Yager. And then the problems began. First it was the delay into 2016, then Yager were dropped as the developer for the sequel. Techland, who had moved on to Dying Light, even offered to take the reins if Deep Silver asked. That didn’t happen.

Silence replaced news on that game for a year before Deep Silver confirmed about a year go that Sumo Digital were now the developers. More silence. That is until Eurogamer asked about the state of Dead Island 2, and Deep Silver responded saying it is still in production.

“Dead Island 2 is in development at Sumo Digital, and we are excited by the progress the team are making with Deep Silver’s most successful IP. When we are ready to share more information, we will.”

Of course we don’t know what kind of state Dead Island 2 will be in or whether it will even represent the original vision of Yager. Personally I’m betting on a 2018 re-reveal, and a 2019 release.

  1. If the original idea was good, stick with that, if not I hope Deep Silver has given Sumo enough autonomy to make their own decisions.

Historically, Deep Silver meddles like buggery so hopefully they’ve learnt their lesson.

  2. Not fussed about Dead Island 2 but I’d love a sequel to Dying Light set in Hong Kong or Tokyo.

After Dying Light, Dead Island feels a little amateur. And the delayed Walking Dead game will have missed the boat, with the show currently in the gutter.

I think Gone Home is the next ‘Infected/Zombie’ game to look out for.

    • Don’t you mean Days Gone?

      • That’s the one.

        I think I need to ‘go home’… :D
