Want to plug that Switch of yours into a TV? Well there’s no two ways about it, you’re going to need to use the official dock and charger to do so. That means that for gamers visiting friends and wanting to stick Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on their 55″ Plasma TV or 108″ projector, you’ll need to take that chunk of plastic with you. That’s alright for a one off occasion, but if you’re dragging it to the office and back each day, that going to be a royal pain in the bum.
Standalone dock sales were quickly pulled after launch in North America, with it due to now go on sale on 19th May in that territory. That changes on 23rd June, when a new bundle including a dock, charger and spare HDMI cable will be released. The price has yet to be announced, but Switch pricing in general has been around about £1:$1 and the dock costs $89.99 in the US. You can do the maths.

So Nintendo could do a Switch with PSU but without dock for about £199 then? If they do I’d be tempted. People have been able to hack a cable to connect to a TV for much cheaper, so just add one of those for me :)

You know that’s not how it works, dude…

Sorry, you’re right. What was I thinking… £199.99 yeah?

With a 99 Flake in the box, yeah.

So, Nintendo designs a console that is going to attract people who want to pop round for a cuppa, play a game, bash in their mate’s head because their mate is a bloody cheater and they need to fork out potentially £80(Probably less but i do not know exchange rates). And they did not even consider doing this when the Switch was launched?
I…..
Goddamnit, Nintendo.
If this is neccessary to do local MP, then that is crap.
If i’m no longer active after this, I have likely been kidnapped by Nintendo’s fan. Dey vicious. :P

You realise this is for an additional dock? If you buy a Switch you get the console (tablet) the 2 detachable Joy-Cons, HDMI, charger and the docking station.
This is for that niche example where you want to plug the Switch into a second TV but don’t fancy unplugging your dock.
That aside, £80+ for a docking station that simply spits an image onto a TV and does a bit of upscaling is very expensive.
