Horizon Zero Dawn 1.30 Patch Adds New Game+, Ultra Hard Difficulty & Face Paint

Having announced The Frozen Wilds expansion back at E3, there’s plenty for fans of the fantastic Horizon Zero Dawn to look forward to at the end of this year, but Guerrilla Games have a surprise for those still eager to explore the post-apocalyptic world of the game. The 1.30 patch is out today with New Game+, Ultra Hard difficulty and more.

All players will get the benefit of fixes to progression issues that have lingered in the game, however if you’ve finished the game and want an excuse to head back New Game+ lets you take all your existing progress and inventory and carry it through to a new play through.

The level 50 cap remains, but you’ll collect more XP on your repeat adventure, which might hint that this will come in useful for exploring The Frozen Wilds. There are also updated versions of weapons and outfits with an extra modification slot to use. Oh, and you’ll be able to slap a bit of face paint onto Aloy and customise the colour of her Focus, which could help your photo mode pics stand out from the crowd.

If you’re looking for an extra challenge, you’ll be able to pick the new Ultra Hard difficulty. Be warned, there’s no stepped back from this challenge, as you won’t have the option to switch down to a lesser setting, and so you’ll have to deal with the enhanced machine senses and behaviours, while also dealing with limited player health regen and other gameplay tweaks.

And finally, trophy hunters will likely want to track down the two new trophies for New Game+. These are:

  • New Game+ Completed (Bronze) – Completed a New Game+ playthrough on any difficulty.
  • Ultra Hard Completed (Silver) – Completed a New Game+ playthrough on Ultra Hard difficulty.

  1. Might head to back to get my face painted & check out the updated weapons.
I’m guessing, if I do a Ultra Hard new game+, I won’t have to do the cauldrons again.

    • Good point, I think only the first one is part of the story? I wonder if that ancient armour is allowed in ultra hard? I’d be very tempted by another playthrough if it weren’t for those bloody underground robots… and, er, Elite.
