Direct Adaptation Movies Of Uncharted And The Last Of Us Unlikely

It looks like Neil Druckmann and the rest of Naughty Dog are no longer really interested in adapting The Last of Us and Uncharted into movies, at least not direct adaptations, saying “as more time passes on we’re not excited about a direct adaptation because we’ve already told that story very well cinematically.”

The quote comes from a talk Neil Druckmann had with Dan Trachtenberg at DICE Summit, where the Naughty Dog creative director also expressed other misgivings regarding movie adaptations His main concern seemed to be about casting new actors to play established characters from both franchises,

“For me and a lot of our fans Nolan North is Nathan Drake. Ashley Johnson is Ellie. Troy Baker is Joel. It would be very disorienting to see someone else in that role.”

However while direct adaptations may be out we already know that the Uncharted movie is on track, with Shawn Levy at the helm and Tom Holland likely to play a young Nathan Drake. Druckmann is more interested in telling the stories not told in the games, and says that in discussions with Shawn he believes that idea is more appealing.

  1. Unless they’re making GTA V: The Movie, I think it would be a hard sell. As much as I love the Uncharted games, I really think they would struggle to sell a movie based on the series. It’s limited to one platform for a start.
