Who doesn’t look forward to the day that there’s a new system software update for their consoles? Oh, the joys of coming home from work like an excited school kid, turning on your PS4 to try out that new beta or get back to farming in Destiny/Fortnite/FIFA, and instead be faced with an update that forces the console to restart so you can get online.
Today’s another one of those glorious day, as Sony have released system software update 6.00 for PS4. Two months after a surprisingly leak free beta period started, we now know what it does:
- This system software update improves system performance.
Thanks, Sony.

Why is that 6.0?
MrYd
The PSVR software also went from 3.10 to 4.10. Which is an even bigger jump than 5.5whateveritwas to 6.0. More than twice as big! So twice as much improvement.
That’s how version numbers work isn’t it?
double-o-dave
Nope.
Sony felt they weren’t being diverse enough in representing numbers equally, so in order not to discriminate against any numbers, they have now decided to randomly generate new system numbers to avoid any offence to numbers which may not have been used yet, or numbers which feel they have been over used. What about the letters is what I say.

ITS MOOOORE STAAAAABAAAAL!
To be fair to Sony and utterly dull on TSA they’ve got this stability thing well sorted, I don’t think I’ve had a crash or stutter since… No, this is no fun, what’s Sony playing at? Stability is boring, where’s my cross game chat??

It’s so stable you could make jokes about where horses live.

The OS is stable but they can always rely on people like Hello Games to screw with things. I swear the code is half computer language, half box of dodgy fireworks! :D

IT GIVES ME MORE STABILITY!

I’ve been using 6.0 for what seems like ages, the beta period isn’t normally as long as it’s been for this one.
The best feature is the new search for the Store, it’s a million times better.
MrYd
The new store search was nothing to do with the 6.0 beta. Everyone’s had that for a couple of weeks now.
6.0 has added nothing. So far. It may have things that haven’t been revealed yet. A big jump to 6.0 seems stupid if there’s not something new there. The beta emails did say “At this Beta stage, the 6.00 update does not include any new major consumer-facing features”. Those first 4 words being important and suggesting something will be included.

What’s missing that everyone wants?
MrYd
Name changes? (For those who made more decisions years ago)
The ability to sort out that TV & Video folder (really don’t need Now TV stuck in 3rd place there).
More supported formats for the Media Player (which can obviously be updated separately, but may at least be tied to the system software in some way)
A nice VR version of the menu for those with fancy hats?
A pony?
Some feature that was missing on the PS3 that people feel the need to mention all the time still, even though we’ve got it now? You know the one!
The option to turn off or revert back to the way it was for every single feature ever added, because there’s always someone not happy about it?

A decent music player on there. The current one is terrible it has next to no interface at all, I want to be able to search to create playlists, to, add songs to a queue etc. Basics of a music player. Yes it plays music but I expect a lot more from this app.
Also the ability to delete media from USB, so when I am in media player and I have watched a film or TV I would love to be able to delete rather than have to connect back to a PC.

There is something … https://twitter.com/oldmario/status/1039134012059656194?s=19
See reply by Luke Meats (online safety manager at Sony). I see Rocket League crossplay stuff is delayed too, what was Sony’s excuse for not allowing crossplay? Ok 2 + 2 = 5 but *something* is happening.
