If you’ve not really been paying attention, the release date announcement of Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales could be a confusing one. Coming out on 23rd October for PC and 4th December for PS4 and Xbox One, this is a new single player story set in the world of The Witcher, but tells its story using the battle system from Gwent: The Witcher Card Game.
A new adventure set in the world of The Witcher awaits! Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales from CD PROJEKT RED will be released on October 23rd via https://t.co/T30xbQyuLc. The console release for Xbox One and PS4 will follow on December 4th. pic.twitter.com/AKzlMFWB4I

It follows Meve, a war veteran of the Northern Realms of Lyria and Rivia, forced to go to war against an impending Nilfgaardian invasion. CD Projekt Red promise that it will feature thought-provoking quests, rich characters, resource gathering, army building and then Gwent-based battling.
So where’s the confusion? Well, just the fact that there’s nary a mention of Gwent or card-game battling until the very last sentence of the news post on CD Projekt Red’s website. If you’re seeing this news without much context, you could be lulled into thinking this is a new RPG in the vein of The Witcher 3.

Massively excited for this. Been playing Gwent more or less since closed beta over a year ago. It’s been a long road with lots of delays and setbacks, but from what they’ve shown I have high hopes indeed.
