IO Interactive Open A Second Studio In Sweden

IO Interactive, the team that are best known for their Hitman series and Kane & Lynch, if you’re of a certain persuasion, are expanding with the opening of a new studio. This offshoot will see IOI spread from their Danish home over to Malmö in Sweden, and will see them branching out to develop new franchises.

IOI CEO Hakan Abrak said, “We are super excited and proud to announce IOI Malmö. We will expand IOI to join a buzzling game developer community and bring our own unique IOI culture to this amazing town. Furthermore, this will expand our muscles for creating brand-new and exciting endeavours, new universes, new franchises. In other words, IOI Malmö and Copenhagen are one family.”

It’s an interesting move for the company, especially considering that their last few Hitman games haven’t necessarily set to the tills ringing, despite being rather good games, but could mark a new era for the studio, which regained its independence after the threat of closure by Square Enix and penned a publishing deal with Warner Bros. for their latest Hitman sequel. With new franchises on the table, it will be fascinating to see what the company come up with next.
