Samurai Shodown – Rimururu gameplay shows DLC character in action

With Evo 2019 entering its final day, this weekend has been chock full of fighting game news and announcement as the world’s top players go head to head.

Alongside mainstays such as Street Fighter V and Tekken 7, a number of newer games have also made their way on stage at Evo 2019 including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, DragonBall FighterZ, Mortal Kombat 11, and the recently released Samurai Shodown.

Although it has only been out for a number of weeks, SNK’s latest entry in this long dormant series had no shortage of entrants.

The publisher has yet to make any big Evo 2019 announcements (with the Samurai Shodown final having wrapped last night, that time may have passed) though fans have been treated to early look at its first DLC character, Rimururu.

She’s a long time fan favourite who first appeared in Samurai Shodown III almost twenty five years ago. Off screen footage captured by Famitsu above (spotted by Gematsu) shows the warrior priestess in action against Yashamaru.

Rimururu is the first of four DLC characters coming to SNK’s Samurai Shodown reboot. When it launched back in June, there were 16 total playable fighters, the roster comprised of 3 newcomers and 13 returning favourites.

Following in the footsteps of most other fighting games, SNK confirmed that additional characters would be coming to Samurai Shodown as part of a season pass. For a brief period, this pass was freely available to anyone who purchased or downloaded a copy of the full game.

Priced at £15.99, it allows access to four bonus fighters, with Rimururu being added later this month. The next character will arrive in October, followed by a third in December, and then a final fighter next February.

With this being referred to as “Season Pass 1” there’s a good chance that SNK will continue to bolster the game’s roster even further should there still be an active community supporting the game.
