The Last of Us Part 2 has now gone gold

It has happened. Neil Druckmann has confirmed that The Last of Us Part 2 has now gone gold, meaning that a master copy of the game has been prepared for retails discs to be pressed and prepared for launch. This is what will be found in retail copies, though modern game development means that Naughty Dog will continue to polish and refine the game over the next few weeks for a day one patch.

The last month has been a bit rocky for Naughty Dog and The Last of Us Part 2. It was first hit by bad news at the beginning of April when it was confirmed that the game was delayed from its May 29th to an indefinite delay, along with Marvel’s Iron Man VR. Then there was the unfortunate instance of The Last of Us Part 2 getting leaked, and it was found that the leakers had no affiliation with Sony or Naughty Dog.

However, it was confirmed soon after that The Last of Us Part 2 would be released on June 19th so good news at last. The file size for the game has also been confirmed with 100GB of data being split across two discs. The Last of Us Part 2 is going to be a meaty experience.

When the latest, totally final release date was announced Herman Hulst, Head of Worldwide Studios, said:

I want to personally congratulate and thank both the teams at Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions on their achievements, as we know it’s not an easy feat to reach the finish line under these circumstances. Both teams have worked hard to deliver world-class experiences, and we can’t wait to see what you think of them when they release in just a few short months.

The Last of Us Part 2 is just six weeks away now, and it will be released exclusively on PS4.

  1. Looking forward to this!

  2. Can’t wait for this – although i’m a little bit anxious that the new enemy mechanics will ramp up the pressure considerably this time!
