Gaming sales topped £130m in the UK during April

As people remain at home sales of games and hardware have sky rocketed and although April’s figures are lower than those from March they are still the highest April sales figures since 2015.

Over one million games were sold and over 210,000 consoles with all three formats, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch reporting boosts in sales, over half a million consoles were sold between March and April, an increase of almost 50% compared to the previous year. 763,000 accessories were also sold with the Dualshock controller coming out top.

Games sales were down on the previous month but that is because March saw the launch Animal Crossing. The big game for April was Final Fantasy VII Remake, another console excluisve, but is thought more people would have opted for a digital version which is not counted in the GFK sales tracking.

Here’s the full boxed chart for the month.

As mentioned, digital sales are not tracked by GFK so the actual number of games sold will be much higher, especially as there are plenty of sales on. The GOG.COM Summer Sale  is now live and running from now until 15th June, but in a nice surprise, they’re also playing host to free demos of a handful of upcoming games.

Those demos include the tactical action of Desperados III (out in June), the madcap alien open world romp of Destroy All Humans! remake (out in July), the re-imagined System Shock and more.

To check these demos out, just follow their respective links:

There’s also another Double Discount sale on the PlayStation Store, and this one includes eFootball PES 2020, Assassin’s Creed Origins, and all of the Call of Duty: WWII DLC which may be worth grabbing considering the game recently went up as one of the PS Plus titles.
