Sony have announced the date and time of the PlayStation 5 reveal event, inviting us all to tune in and watch at 9PM BST / 10PM CEST on 4th June. If you’re a fan you already know that, what you might have missed is the reaction to Sony’s tweet from the official Horizon Zero Dawn account.

The classic “hand over mouth” emoji denoting that someone knows a secret that they cannot reveal yet. Horizon Zero Dawn creators Guerrilla Games were behind the PlayStation 4 lead launch title, Killzone Shadow Fall, so they have record of leading a new console launch. It’s also about the right time for a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, by the time the PlayStation 5 launches it will have been over three and half years since Guerrilla released a game.
It took them longer to create Shadow Fall but that was a smaller team, back in 2018 Guerrilla Games’ then CEO Hermen Hulst said “Afer Horizon Zero Dawn, we are accelerating, the best talents are coming to us, and last month we have already hired nine new people, but we also needed more space for our sound and motion tracking studios.”
“We want to release games in the two or three years, both new titles and games based on existing titles,” he added.
There’s also the small matter that every knows Horizon Zero Dawn 2 (or whatever it will be called) is in production. Multiple job listings have either named the franchise or hinted heavily at it. Janina Gavankar, who played Tatai in The Frozen Wilds DLC, also let slip that she knows a good bit about the follow up while speaking to fans at Star Wars Celebration. “It’s incredible. Just wait ’til you see the sequel, you’re gonna die. I know some secrets, you’re gonna die,” she said.
Guerrilla Games’ co-founder Hermen Hulst was promoted to Head of Worldwide Studios at Sony Interactive Entertainment in November last year so that also puts his old team in prime position to lead our journey in to next gen.
