Rockstar Games has announced it is expanding to the music industry today. The developer best known for the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead games has revealed it is partnering with the party and dance music brand to form the music record label CircoLoco Records. This record label will be focusing on dance music with the first EP not far away at all. The EP, called Monday Dreamin’ Blue, will be available on June 4th.
This is what Rockstar Games has to say about the first EP, and what it is leading to.
Debuting with a series of EPs featuring tracks from the label’s forthcoming first compilation album, Monday Dreamin’, CircoLoco Records will showcase contributions from some of the visionaries and icons from every era of CircoLoco’s greatest parties including new music from Music Locker resident DJ Moodymann, After Hours resident Dixon, along with Carl Craig, Luciano, Seth Troxler, and Rampa, as well as up and coming artists that point to the future of dance music including Sama’ Abdulhadi, Lost Souls of Saturn & TOKiMONSTA, Red Axes, and many more.
The first EP, Monday Dreamin’ Blue EP, will kick things off on June 4th featuring new tracks from Sama’ Abdulhadi, Kerri Chandler, Rampa, and Seth Troxler alongside a new Dixon remix of Deichkind’s “Autonom.” The Seth Troxler track, “Lumartes” is now available. Further EPs will release weekly in the lead-up to the full compilation’s release on July 9th.
The partnership between Rockstar Games and CircoLoco has not come from nowhere. Many dance artists that have performed at CircoLoco events have been featured on the radio in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. These artists include The Blessed Madonna, Dixon, Solomun, Keinemusik, Tale Of Us, and Moodymann. Music has always been a major part of the Grand Theft Auto franchise and it is likely that the establishment of CircoLoco Records will have a large impact on future music playlists in other Rockstar Games including Grand Theft Auto VI.
