Square Enix have released a new trailer for Babylon’s Fall, the next game from Platinum Games. The video shows of plenty of the hack and slash gameplay that Platinum is famous for, but also includes some rather dodgy accents on the voice work and, er, opera singing.
The game can be played solo or with a team of up to four. An item called the Gideon Coffin which is located on the character back is key to upgrading your character and the title will be a live service game with regular updates after launch.
With a setting that seems to chart the rise and fall of the Helos Empire across hundreds of years, it sports Platinum’s distinctive style of fluid action heavy gameplay. It’s also rendered with a new “Brushwork Filter” for its visual style.
First announced at E3 2018, Babylon’s Fall is a brand new IP for both companies, but the two have worked together in the past, most notably on the critically acclaimed NieR:Automata. At the time of its announcement it was pegged for a PS4 and PC release in 2019, though they’re obviously missing that target by quite some distance. The trailer reveals that game is still coming to PS4 but there’s also a PS5 logo, it’s unclear if that means it’s just backwards compatible or there will be a PS5 version.
PLatinum Games have been fairly busy of late, having struck up a running partnership with Nintendo during the Wii U era. There they rekindled the Bayonetta series, with a third game being backed by Nintendo once more as a Switch exclusive, though they also created Wonderful 101 for Wii U, worked on Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard, and have also released Astral Chain for Switch.
