Sony have announced that Bluepoint Games are the latest studio to join the PlayStation family. The news was announced on the PlayStation Blog by Head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst:
Today I’m very excited to announce that PlayStation Studios has grown again with the addition of long-time partner Bluepoint Games! From the exceptional PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls to the critically acclaimed PS4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus and remasters of fan favorites like Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Bluepoint has built a name for itself by creating some of the highest-quality remasters and remakes in the industry.
With each of its projects, Bluepoint has raised the bar on console-defining visuals and gameplay, and the studio’s vast expertise in world building and character creation will be a huge plus for future PlayStation Studios properties.
Welcome to the PlayStation Studios family, Bluepoint!
Bluepoint Games’ President Marco Thrush was similarly thrilled, saying:
PlayStation has such an iconic gaming catalog and for us there’s been nothing better than to bring some of gaming’s masterpieces to new players. Becoming a part of PlayStation Studios, empowers our team to raise the quality-bar even further and create even more impactful experiences for the PlayStation community.
Best known for their increasingly excellent remakes of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls, Bluepoint has much grander aspirations going forward. In an interview with IGN, Thrush said: “Our next project, we’re working on original content right now. We can’t talk about what that is, but that’s the next step in the evolution for us.”
Now if you’re thinking “Hang on, I thought Sony bought Bluepoint a while back” that will be because Sony Japan prematurely announced the buy out when Housemarque join the family. Clearly this deal has been in the works for quite some time.

Bluepoint most recently released the excellent Demon’s Souls remake for PS5.
It’s the latest in a string of acquisitions that Sony has made, primarily bringing established partners into the PlayStation Studios fold. Just this year, Sony added Returnal developer Housemarque to their collection of studios and snapped up Nixxes, a studio that is renowned for their expertise in bringing games to PC, which will seriously help their ambitions to bring more first party games to computers. They also announced the acquisition of Liverpool-based Firesprite, which was founded by former Studio Liverpool heads almost a decade ago. Not only that, but Firesprite themselves have gone and acquired a studio, the Manchester-based Fabrik Games that was spun off from themselves several years ago.
Busy, exciting times for Sony, as they look to counteract the big money moves and acquisitions being made across the industry, whether it’s Microsoft building a Game Pass feeding monster, Embracer buying up everything it can, or the continued investments and purchases from Chinese megacorps like Tencent.
