Sony remove Uncharted 4 from individual sale on PlayStation Store ahead of Legacy of Thieves release

With yesterday’s announcement of the release date and upgrade plans for Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves on PlayStation 5, Sony has removed Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy from individual sale on the PlayStation Store. You can still buy them, but now only in a more expensive bundle.

Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy were both in the PlayStation Hits range of budget legacy titles on the PlayStation 4, priced individually at £15.99 on the PlayStation Store and regularly included in discounts during sales. Both have now been delisted from individual sale, but are available in the ‘UNCHARTED 4: A Thief’s End & UNCHARTED: The Lost Legacy Digital Bundle’, which is listed for £34.99 – a price increase of £3.01.

A bit cheeky at the best of times, the reason for this is clear, and that’s the upgrade path that Sony are offering to owners of the games on PS4. If you own a copy of Uncharted 4, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy or this new bundle, you will be able to upgrade to Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves for £10 when it is released in January 2022, even if you only own one of the two games. Since Legacy of Thieves is priced at £44.99, keeping the games on sale individually would hugely undercut the new retail price that Sony want to set. That’s also why they’re blocking copies of Uncharted 4 acquired through PlayStation Plus from the upgrades.

Of course, you do have another option: buy the games on disc. Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy have sold in their millions, and so you can either buy a new PlayStation Hits copy of either game for £15.99 or during seasonal sales that see the price drop below £10 quite often, or pick up a second hand copy.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection makes a bunch of upgrades to both Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy with three new graphics modes to choose from:

  • Fidelity Mode – For those of you who have a 4K display and want super sharp resolution above all else to enjoy the stunning environments and details the Uncharted series is known for, select Fidelity Mode and play in native 4K resolution with a 30fps target framerate.
  • Performance Mode – We carried over the high framerate PS4 patch with Performance Mode, which targets a 60fps frame rate.
  • Performance+ Mode – If you’re all about the smoothest gameplay possible and don’t mind a resolution drop, try out our first ever Performance+ Mode which targets 120fps at a 1080p resolution.

This wouldn’t be a PS5 re-release with making use of unique system features such as immersive haptic feedback via the DualSense controller and spatial 3D audio. The Uncharted 4 multiplayer and co-op modes are not being upgraded, but the servers are still online and is playable via backward compatibility.

One final thing to note is that all purchases/upgrades made in Australia, New Zealand, UK, or the US before February 3, 2022, will receive a standard ticket code to watch the Uncharted movie.
