The Settlers has been reannounced, full reveal in January confirms Ubisoft

The Settlers franchise is returning once again, Ubisoft has announced today. There are not many details though the description on the official The Settlers website states that this is a reimagined title with new features and brand new visuals too. As of now the only clear information we have is that Ubisoft will be revealing more details about The Settlers in January 2022, and that it will be on PC only. The other confirmed news is that people can register now for a chance to play the new The Settlers.

This is not the first time Ubisoft has announced The Settlers. In fact, back in 2018, Ubisoft revealed The Settlers during Gamescom but after that nothing was heard. This is likely the same version with Ubisoft utilising the Snowdrop engine to run the game. At the time of the original announcement, Ubisoft stated it was working with original developer Blue Byte. The current website states that Ubisoft Düsseldorf is the development studio behind the new release.

This is not the only reveal Ubisoft has had this week. Yesterday, the company announced it was remaking the original Splinter Cell. In a statement, Ubisoft said: “Ubisoft has greenlit the development of a Splinter Cell remake that will draw from the rich canvas of the brand. Led by Ubisoft Toronto, the game will be rebuilt from the ground up using Ubisoft’s own Snowdrop engine – the same engine being used to develop Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, as well as Ubisoft’s upcoming Star Wars game – to deliver new-generation visuals and gameplay, and the dynamic lighting and shadows the series is known for.”

A release date for either The Settlers or Splinter Cell Remake has yet to be confirmed.
