Nintendo has released a patch for Nintendo Switch Sports, fixing a game crash bug that was introduced with an update last week and forced them to take the game’s servers offline. Update ver 1.2.2 is required to get back online, with a further update set to reenable save data backups.

Introduced with version 1.2.1 last week, the bug was causing the game to crash back to the Switch OS during the pre-match loading screens. This was, it turns out, down to a save data entry while starting up 2-player matches.

As recompense for the downtime, users with both Nintendo Switch Sports and an active Nintendo Switch Online membership will have their subscription extended by one week. additionally, from 17th October to 2nd November, points earned when playing “Play Globally” will be doubled.

With two updates rolling out this week, here’s the patch notes for both version 1.2.2 and version 1.2.3

[First update]

Update data (Ver.1.2.2)
Release date: October 17, 2022 (Monday)

  • With the release of this update, we will stop server maintenance. Online play will be available once maintenance ends.
[Second update]

Update data (Ver.1.2.3)
Scheduled release date: October 19, 2022 (Wednesday)

  • This webpage or our Twitter account will notify when the update date is confirmed.
  • Save data backup will resume service after this update.
  • For some players, the order of items in the “Accessories (head)” section of “Customize” will be different from its order before the update. This will not have effects on playing the game.
