Polyphony Digital has taken the wraps of what will be a huge patch for Gran Turismo 7, with update 1.29 adding PSVR 2 support, the new ‘Superhuman AI’ challenge, a classic circuit from the series’ history, and five new cars.

The update will be live across PS5 and PS4 at the following times around the world:

  • North America – Monday 20th February 10PM PST / 7PM EST
  • United Kingdom – Tuesday 21st February 6AM GMT
  • Europe – Tuesday 21st February 7AM CET
  • Japan – Tuesday 21st February 3PM JST

However, there are different bonuses, depending on which systm you’re playing on.

Once downloaded, PlayStation 5 owners with a PlayStation VR 2 headset will be able to experience the entire game in VR – this is not a limited mode as it was in GT Sport. That means everything from completing races and Cafe Menu Book missions, to heading online for Sport mode and custom lobbies. The only thing missing is local multiplayer. You’ll be able to get up close and personal with the cars with with a new VR Showroom, touring the hundreds of cars in the game.

Also PS5 exclusive is the superhuman AI called Sophy and the ‘Gran Turismo Sophy Race Together’ mode. This will be available in-game from 21st February to the end of March, showcasing a new racing AI that was developed in a collaboration between Sony AI, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Polyphony Digital. You’ll be able to race in a series of four increasingly difficult circuits with Beginner / Intermediate / Expert difficulty levels. These will pit you head to head with four GT Sophy drivers of different levels, though you can also go 1v1 against GT Sophy.

The elements that are universal to the game are the cars and track.

The classic Gran Valley setting returns with a complete overhaul for the new generation. The full Highway 1 layout is featured alongside a shorter 2km South layout, both designed to evoke the feeling of driving seaside roads around the world.

The five cars are:

  • Honda RA272 ’65
  • Italdesign Exeneo Vision Gran Turismo Street and Off-Road Mode
  • Citroën DS 21 Pallas ’70
  • Porsche 911 Carrera RS (901) ’73

The Italdesign is two models of the same car design.

And there we have it! That’s quite an update for Gran Turismo 7 and we can’t wait to get stuck in!

  1. Getting to go up against Sophy is a nice surprise, I thought it would be quite a while until before we would see it. From what’s been said about Sophy it is meant to be just like racing a human, and she’s pretty good having beaten the best GT players. Every lap she does she will be learning how to become better and better.
