It’s been a strange week in the games industry’s big three. After far too much speculation and back-and-forth reports, Microsoft had their “business update” podcast that was about as restrained as you should have expected this whole saga to be. Then Sony suggested that the next year could be quite quiet from their first party studios (if you’re a sequel-liker, that is), and now there’s reports that the Switch 2 isn’t coming until 2025.
Is 2024 going to end up as a bit of a down year? Will there be a chance to clear some of your pile of shame? I wouldn’t count on it!
In the News This Week
There was some big and impactful news this week with the Xbox business update, but maybe not a whole lot of it. Here’s the main headlines:
- Four Xbox games are coming to other consoles, but not Starfield or Indy
- Report: Nintendo Switch 2 launch pushed back to early 2025
- Sony won’t release “any new major existing franchise titles” before April 2025
- Diablo 4 is coming to Game Pass this March
- Rare tease Sea of Thieves on PlayStation and Switch
- PS5 exclusive horror game Shines Over: The Damned announced
- What the Golf? is coming to PS4 and PS5 March 14th
