What We Played #644 – The Outlast Trials, Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley & Helldivers 2

Outlast Trials Header

Given how often I’ve used the weather as an excuse for staying indoors and playing games, it’s fitting that I could take the opportunity with the sun showing itself to spend a little time on outdoorsy tasks. But when darkness falls, it was back to Helldiving into the morass of robot and bug enemies on alien worlds (often with terrible weather), and then enduring the horrors of The Outlast Trials with Tuffcub and Steve.

Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley music

Aran has jumped from playing the “chill and wholesome” Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley straight into the next big PlayStation 5 exclusive. That’s right, Rise of the Ronin review code is now in hand and, while we’re not yet able to say anything about the game, we can say that you should come back on Monday to get some initial thoughts about the game. Exciting times!

In contrast, Gamoc’s gaming is all about the known quantities. He played the roguelike FPS Robo Quest on Game Pass, continued on his journeys through Baldur’s Gate 3 and Midnight Suns, and decided to give Gotham Knights another chance for a change of pace, although he commented that ” It doesn’t deserve that chance really and I can’t see myself finishing it.”

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Chocobo Synergy

Nick P has been wholly consumed by Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, so let’s move swiftly along to Miguel, who’s been juggling Armored Core 6, Helldivers 2 and random games on his Playdate like Legend of Etad and P-Racing.

Reuben has finally folded and given Stardew Valley a chance… and has now been obsessively playing it ever since – “I genuinely cannot put the game down!” – while Ade’s continuing his cathartic piratical adventures in Skull and Bones.

And we can round things out for the week with Steve, who put a few hours into Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and is currently wandering around in Chapter 2. However, as mentioned said at the head, he “suffered” through some Outlast Trials, “which was certainly a vibe.” It’s better with friends, at least.

Now then, what have you been playing this past week?

  1. Continuing my journey of wonder in Elden Ring, peppered throughout with moments of excruciating humiliation. It’s the only way to game!

  2. I finished playing through the story of Ghostwire:Tokyo, which was good fun, then mopped up some more trophies there, as I still enjoy roaming through this version of the Japanese capital. Then I checked out The Outer Wilds, which, during my first two sessions, left me pretty clueless.
I also had to extend my otherwise not much liked Apple TV subscription, as I suddenly stumbled across the series Silo, which is excellent.

  3. A bit more trying to clear some backlog. Nearly finished A Plague Tale: Requiem now. Still an incredibly good looking game. Still has one of my least favourite things in games, the running towards the camera chase sequence. At least it’s sort of justified to show off the rat swarm physics.

And a lot more of Granblue Fantasy: Relink. A fairly short main campaign, followed by a massively generous post-game section. Why fight a single boss again when you can fight 3 at once?

Plus some Diablo 4 again and more Helldivers 2. And Sifu from PS+, which is definitely a bit “meh”.

Oh, and Dune Part 2 is an incredible experience on a massive IMAX screen. Highly recommended if you can get to one. Otherwise, the biggest screen you can find.
