What We Played – Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, God of War: Ascension & Trail Out

Has it been too hot to play games this week? I’d argue it might have been for me, with my overriding concern being to not add to the amount of heat being pumped into my living space by the Sun by also converting electricity into heat with my PC or games consoles. So instead I’ve mainly played with the thermodynamics of opening and closing windows, curtains and blinds, and then regularly checking thermometers to see if that’s made even half a degree’s difference.

But I did turn the PC on for a little while to play through another couple chapters of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, exploring deep under the surface of Minos, and I had some pre-heat wave impressions from Granblue Fantasy: Relink Endless Ragnarok too.

Laura was the first to appear, having dabbled with a bit of Jurassic Evolution 3’s Rebirth DLC – a “brilliant bonus campaign and I freaking love the new dinosaurs.” – and is looking forward to making a start on Beastro… “but not right now because the thought of cooking – even virtually – in this heat makes me sweat an extra cob!”

There was also a wild Nick P, who’s been playing a ton of Marvel Rivals and practicing his best Captain America to do so. Then there was Street Fighter 6 to grind with AKI, some avoiding Jason in Dead by Daylight, and managing a bunch of museums in Two Point Museum – “The Arty-Facts DLC came out recently and it’s probably the best update they’ve done.”

Jim’s been playing Cocoon and enjoying the alien insectoid aesthetic for the puzzler, which comes from one of the minds behind Limbo and Inside. And he’s also played Trail Out on PS5 – “It’s a truly bizarre, scrappy racing game from Ukraine that packs in a surprisingly diverse spread of modes with some delightfully dreadful dialogue. Still, it has heart, and keeps me coming back to play a handful of races here and there.”

While he’s still getting distracted by side quests, that’s only helped Aran on his path through Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth, because it means he’s a bit over-levelled now. He’s also continued playing with Real Zaragoza in Football Manager 26, and is battling for promotion into La Liga.

Keeping his gaming strictly for the darker hours, Steve has carried on with God of War 2 and begun on Ascension, “which I barely remember so feels like a whole new game.” He’s also checkout out Kromlech in Early Access, which has some Gothic-like vibes to it, and the indie horror game Saint of Chains.

Gamoc’s had Bellwright and The Necromancer’s Tale on the go for review, as well as some Balatro, but it was Tuffcub who’s won this week:

“I have been playing swimming with dolphins, sunbathing, eating delicious food and cuddling the BF. 10/10 would recommend. P.S. tomorrow we’re going to see wild roaming elephants. There’s an island here that belonged to President Tito and he got all sorts of exotic animal gifts and when he snuffed it they just left them on the island. Basically Jurassic Park but with modern animals, and now you can hire a bike and poodle round the island and check out the zebras. Thankfully they got rid of the lions.”

Now then, what, if anything, have you played this week?

I'm probably wearing toe shoes, and there's nothing you can do to stop me!

  1. I’ve not had much play time, but can fully resonate with trying to control temperature in a house that keeps getting warmer every day. But I’ve stumbled across this game, which is excellent:
