On top of the new hero and villain character reveals from earlier today, DICE has unveiled details on three new game modes that’ll be included with Star Wars Battlefront.
The first mode is Heroes vs. Villains. In it, 3 heroes fight against 3 villains, as well as 3 regular troopers being on each side. In this mode, when a hero/villain character dies, that player respawns as a normal trooper on the same team. The goal is to kill all 3 hero or villain characters, or have the highest number of hero/villain kills by the end of the match. The mode is designed to be short and intense.
The next mode is called Battles. In it, you can fight against an enemy team of AI-combatants. You can also bring a 2nd player into the mode, either as a teammate, or as the enemy, giving you the option to also have purely 1v1 battles with an online player. The goal of the mode is to collect tokens from defeated enemies, with the first team to reach 100 claiming the victory. There’s also a variant of the mode called Hero Battles, where you and the 2nd player can opt to play as hero/villain characters.
Finally, there are Training Missions. These are designed to give players, new or otherwise, a rundown of all the different mechanics present in the game. There are a total of five training missions, plus a tutorial mission called Probe Droids. Oh my.
The various training missions will drop you into scenarios and teach you skills such as piloting an x-wing, driving a Snowspeeder, or even learning how to properly make use of hero/villain skillsets.
Battlefront launches on November 17th for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, with the highly anticipated Star Wars film The Force Awakens premiering about a month later.

The hero vs villains sounds like Payne Killer mode from Max Payne 3. Good and intense though hopefully some characters aren’t to op.

The more info I hear about this game, the less enthusiastic about it I get. I think I’m going to give it a miss.

Just out of interest, what is it that has put you off from the above? Or am I missing something?
Do you not like additional options then? ;)

Thats a good point ;)
Well I didn’t like the hero/villian (Luke/Darth Vader) bit of the beta. I think I’d rather just see the foot soldiers in battle.
Plus, if they’re going to include smaller matches (3v3 etc), then I think the characters mechanics should be completely changed – for me, the mechanics of the way the characters move & the way the weapons work suit bigger maps with large amounts of people.

Yeah, that’s fair enough. I guess with regard to your last point, it’s somewhat akin to battlefield when you spawn into a map that has only a few players – You can spend the entire match just roaming around, barely seeing anyone. It’s weird! I suppose for that sort of thing, you could maybe have cut down versions of the maps (similar to when only portions of the playfield are available at various sections of rush)?
I didn’t play the beta, so am not really qualified to comment on it, but I have to admit that I do a least like the idea of the hero/villain thing. Whether it works well or not remains to be seen I guess.
Did enjoy a video of Mr Skywalker getting squashed by an At-At the other day though! :)

I can just imagine in 3v3 mode, a reduced map size where players are just legging it around corridors as fast as possible, then just squeezing the trigger or waving their light sabres about in hope, as opposed to a game with different character mechanics where you could be a bit stealth & use cover etc.
I heard about that video – may have to give it a look now it’s lunch time! :)

Interesting, I’m the exact opposite, I’ve been hovering over cancel on my pre-order and now they are filling in the extra modes I’m getting more interested.

Looking through the options in the beta, and now reading this, it sounds as though the single player will be a lot like the squads mode from CoD: Ghosts, which isn’t a bad thing. They could have easily have done worse. If it goes a bit cheap before Christmas, consider it bought.
Anyone seen the third trailer for The Force Awakens? Bloody amazing.

It was bloody amazing! It’s quite grim looking, can’t wait!
Battle mode news is good news, I’m surprised but pleased that sofa coop is being fairly well catered for.

Hmmmmm, I’m really excited about this game have it on pre-order but I’m not that impressed with the run-and-gun style of play from the beta and now these modes announced today sound just as simple in their mechanics. I’m going to get the game but I do worry about its lasting appeal.
