Video: Exploring The Augmented Future Of Call Of Duty: Black Ops III’s Campaign

It’s Treyarch’s turn at bat with the Call of Duty franchise, and with one of the broadest and most expansive games in the series so far. Completely playable in four player co-op, Black Ops III heads 40 years into the future from the end of Black Ops II, with human augmentation now rife in a turbulent world. We explore the campaign in the first of three videos going up today, ahead of tomorrow’s launch and review.

Be sure to check back later for our videos on the Zombies and multiplayer game modes.

This video features footage captured at a dedicated two day review event. Accommodation was provided by Activision, with access to the pre-release game code and servers for this purpose.

  1. At the 2:29 point I realized that it looks completely dull, full of lots of static-head-shot-me-targets and looks the same as every other futuristic version of this franchise.

  2. Just so bored of near future FPS. Remember the good old days when they were pretty much all WWII?! Just seems everything on PS4 is not my cuppa at the moment. I’m not interested in VR and instead of all the games I’ve been patiently waiting for (Skate 4, RDR 2, etc..), it seems the current focus is on weird Japanese games and throwaway Indie games that I’m not really interested in either! Had my PS4 since launch and I’ve got about 6 games. I ended up with 200+ on PS3. Maybe it’s time to look for a new hobby?

    • I don’t think its time to look for a new hobby, but maybe have more realistic wants & needs perhaps?

That isn’t meant to be insulting (hope it doesn’t come across as that), more along the lines that you are holding out for Skate 4, which may be nigh on impossible depending on who holds the licence &/or whether EA would be prepared to revisit that genre (maybe more likely since THPS5) & RDR 2, which although generally expected since the success of the last one, I don’t believe has been officially announced (has it?)?

Anyway, my point is that there are already some great games you could be getting stuck into, you may just need to broaden your horizons more. :)

  3. I mostly looking forward to Zombies but I’m also looking forward to playing the campaign on realistic mode, 4-player co-op. It should mix it up from the usual CoD campaigns, and you can’t go wrong with a bit of co-op!

Treyarch have had the most development time with current gen consoles, and haven’t had to worry about PS3 versions of the campaign, so I would hope it would be better than Advanced Warfare (which wasn’t a terrible campaign, unlike Ghosts, but wasn’t amazing either imo).

Really not fussed about the competitive multiplayer though.
