Hunt Showdown update drops as Crytek celebrates 4th anniversary

We’ve got a double dose of Hunt Showdown news for you Bounty Hunters out there. A new update has just gone live on PC and consoles with developer Crytek announcing how its going to celebrate the game’s 4th anniversary.

That’s right, it’s been four years since Hunt Showdown lurked from the swampy depths and onto Steam early access. The eerie online shooter didn’t find instant success but has gone on to become one of the best multiplayer experiences currently available, praised for its nail-biting standoffs and unique PvPvE twist.

Speaking of which, this is something Crytek wants to emphasise. When teasing a “new look” for Hunt Showdown we assumed this meant a graphics update – or potentially a native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version. Instead, it is referencing the game’s updated branding which focuses more on that bounty hunting element crucial to its identity.

It’s perhaps not the biggest birthday bonanza (unless Crytek has some major announcements up its sleeve) but you can still get in on the action with some neat Twitch drops:

The Twitch Drops campaign, which includes four Legendary Weapons and a Legendary Hunter, starts tomorrow (February 23rd) at 3pm UTC and runs until 3pm UTC on Tuesday, March 1st. Drops are open to all, so players simply need to watch their favourite Hunt: Showdown Twitch Streamer to start collecting free rewards.

Hunt Showdown Update 1.7.2.2 Patch Notes

  • Fixed a bug that prevented players from consistently placing beartraps.

  • Fixed an issue that caused elements of the UI to be missing.

  • Fixed a bug that caused the “hot” news pop-up to appear when returning to the lobby after a match.

  • Fixed a bug that prevented the confirmation pop up from appearing when claiming the last part of the Dark Tribute.

  • Fixed a bug that caused players to appear empty handed or to have the wrong item in their hands in the 3rd person perspective. In some cases, this could present as some unusual kills and unexplainable kills (example, being shot through a wall but the death screen shows a beartrap).

  • Fixed an audio issues tied to Dark Tribute. The audio tied to this feature will now play as intended.

  • Fixed the “Make Deal” button to display the correct text instead of a UI_String.

  • Fixed a bug that caused issue with the UI in the lobby screen (incorrect spacing for the tabs at the top of the screen).

  • Fixed a bug that caused a Dark tribute pop up to appear twice in instances where you have unlocked the Legendary Hunter.

  • Fixed a bug that caused the EXP text of the Dark tribute to not be correctly aligned with the rest of the UI.

  • Corrected the stats shown for the Poison Trip mines. ‘Damage’ text has been updated to “Damage per tick” and the value has been corrected to show as 10, instead of 13 (this is not a change to the stats, just the details displayed as they were incorrect).

In our review of Hunt: Showdown we praised the sleeper hit for its sense of atmosphere and risk/reward gameplay despite taking a while for the game to click:

“I’ll admit I wasn’t keen on Hunt: Showdown to start with, but after the first few matches I realised there’s something special here. This is an unusual entry in a genre ruled by far snappier shooters, and it takes time to get your head around Crytek’s clever twist on the formula. Stick with it and you’ll be rewarded with a uniquely engrossing multiplayer experience.”

In other Hunt: Showdown news, the multiplayer shooter is being adapted into a live action series exclusively for free streaming platform, Binge, in 2022.
