Hunt Showdown has one of the best April Fool’s gaffs of 2022

hunt showdown ps5 xbox update

Well done, Hunt Showdown, you actually had us there for a second. With some studios having pulled the trigger early (and others scrambling to put something together last-minute), our inbox is already slammed with April Fool’s gaffs. Crytek went the extra mile this year – see the new Hunt Showdown video below.

According to the developer, a quartet of new Hunters have made their way to the Bayou for some Crytek crossover action. These include:

  • Prophet from Crysis
  • Marius Titus from Ryse: Son of Rome
  • “Climber” from The Climb
  • Laika from Robinson: The Journey

Each character arrives with their unique roster of skills to bring new gameplay options to players. Post-human warrior Prophet comes equipped with the devastating abilities of the Nanosuit, including Strength, Speed, and Cloaking abilities. Roman soldier Marius Titus brings his sword to gunfights in the bayou. From the Climb, “Climber” can access places other Hunters simply cannot, providing new tactical advantages. Finally, baby Tyrannosaurus Rex, Laika, becomes the first playable dinosaur in the game.

The nail-biting PvPvE hit recently celebrated its fourth anniversary. It has also been revealed that Hunt Showdown is being adapted into a live action series exclusively for free streaming platform, Binge, later this year. Until then, here are those latest patch notes.

In our review of Hunt: Showdown we praised the sleeper hit for its sense of atmosphere and risk/reward gameplay despite taking a while for the game to click:

“I’ll admit I wasn’t keen on Hunt: Showdown to start with, but after the first few matches I realised there’s something special here. This is an unusual entry in a genre ruled by far snappier shooters, and it takes time to get your head around Crytek’s clever twist on the formula. Stick with it and you’ll be rewarded with a uniquely engrossing multiplayer experience.”

Meanwhile, Hunt Showdown update 1.8 just touched down on PS4 and Xbox – you can catch the latest patch notes here.
