A Gravity Rush movie is in development

Gravity Rush movie

Sony’s PlayStation Productions arm is really going all guns at the moment, yesterday we had news of a Days Gone film and now a Gravity Rush movie is in development. It seems like things are progressing quite quickly with Anna Mastro (Secret Society of Second Born Royals) set to direct a script written by Emily Jerome.

The movie will be co produced by PlayStation Productions and Scott Free Productions, the film and television production vehicle of Ridley Scott.

As far as I can recall this will be the first film based on a PlayStation Vita title and one of the lesser known games in Sony’s back catalogue. One does have to wonder why we are not getting a Killzone or Resistance Fall of Man movie, surely bigger franchises than Gravity Rush. There again with a female protagonist, writer, and director perhaps Sony are aiming at a slightly different market with the Gravity Rush movie.

We may already have an idea what the film will look like as Sony created a live action trailer for the game.

Sony have already released the Uncharted movie with Gran Turismo set for next year. Movies based on Ghost of Tsushima, Jak and Daxter, and Days Days Gone are also in production, as are television series based on The Last of Us, Twisted Metal, God of War, and Horizon. There are also rumours of a The Last Guardian movie, a film based on the game was announced many years ago but this seems to be a new production.

There’s also movies for Borderlands, Metal Gear Sold, Mass Effect, Asteroids, Ghost Recon, Five Nights at Freddies, The Division, and a third Sonic The Hedgehog film in production. How many of these ever make it to the small screen remains to be seen, despite being announced we have never seen the films based on Kane & Lynch, Devil May Cry, Dead Space, Firewatch, InFamous, or Shadow of the Colossus.
