We’ve hurtled through September, and the latest bunch of big games has landed on our doorsteps. Has it been a Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall or just plain old FC 27 for you? it’s been the former for me, though I feel the need to pause my playthrough and try to go back to the first game – a risky decision, that’s for sure. Alongside that, I dipped a toe into the Fangtopia demo, and the dogsbody co-op action of Gravhounds, both of which are playable on Steam with demos this week.
Aran chimed in first having played Rivage for review, “which was fine if a bit bogged down with a bit too much padding for puzzle solutions.” And then paired that up with our review of EA Sports FC 27 and made a start on Qliphah in Providence’s Shadow for yet another.
It was a similar mish-mash of games for Jim, who started playing Industria – “a short, narrative-focused FPS that has a bit of a Half-Life/BioShock vibe” – followed that up with Gears of War: Reloaded on PS5 and Jumping Flash from the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalogue. Of the latter, he says, “It’s a game I’d never tried before but I’m having great fun with it, witnessing 90s devs taking their first steps into the 3D platformer genre.”
Still on their early spooky season gaming, Laura finished playing Still Wakes The Deep this week, and says she’s “now missing sneaking around a dilapidated oil rig, running from mutated monsters and cursing in a Scottish accent!” Naturally, she’s chosen to follow that up with Silent Hill: Townfall, and is enjoying all the sneaking, running and mutated monsters, but is saddened by the lack of Scottish cursing.
The eternally youthful Gamoc (in Sony’s age verification eyes, anyway) has been playing Red Dead Online in stony silence with a friend of his, so he’s escaped to the world of sounds in Runescape Dragonwilds, Spawl Zero, Deadlock Station, Fractured Worlds, Transport fever 3 and DreamEcho for a plethora of reviews.
Steve got the JRPG itch and started to play Another Eden Begins, making his way through around 40 hours of it “despite finding it annoying”. He also rattled through Marvel’s Wolverine, which was “Fun enough, but not sure where the money went.” Well, he knows where his money went, because he has since traded it in.
And finally, Dom has been flying through the skies in Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve and having a grand old time with it, enjoying the arcade dogfighting and cinematic flair.
Now then, what have you played this week?

Andrewww
Still playing through Silent Hill 2, I think I’m about half-way in, and it’s the right kind of spooky, I like it.
