Kinect’s Box Art Revealed?

Box art is the first wave of attack when it comes to luring unsuspecting consumers to part with their coins. If a game box looks drab and uninteresting then chances are that Joe public will probably pass it up in favour of ‘shiny looking game number 56’.

Kotaku are claiming to have gotten their hands on what appears to be the box art for Microsoft’s Kinect device, as well as the new Xbox 360/Kinect bundle.  As you can see from the picture above, it draws heavily from the Nintendo Wii school of design – and then slaps a big dash of purple on it.

Now call us unusual but does anyone else really dislike the purple? The good news is that this has in no way been confirmed by Microsoft, so it might not actually appear at all.

  1. YOU ARE THE CONTROLLER!

    • …but I always break my controllers :(

    • It wouldn’t surprise me if the box art was purple, since it’s all over the Kinect page on xbox.com.

    • I am not a controller, i am a man

    • You’re gonna need a lot of AA batteries. How much is the Charge Kit gonna cost?

  2. I still don’t like the design they’ve got going for it.
The green and purple “wave” on the white just looks like a really rubbish and boring template you would use for a banking leaflet or a powerpoint presentation.
NOT for a new, futuristic and game changing device.

    • It reminds me of cough medicine…but then again I’m odd.

    • It reminds me of a BT product, a phone or router or something

    • it screams wii to me. at a quick glance i would think it was the new wii range of tat. They might just pull this off you know…

  3. thats a very very ugly stand

  4. Looks pants, or as I’ve heard elsewhere “it looks like a cleaning product”. Horrible.

    • “Kinect-Bang! Wipes away all your gaming memories!”

  5. It doesn’t look fantastic really, but how many designs for boxart will they have? Hundred’s probably.
I dont think this is the final design, its not good enough

    • I agree – it just doesn’t look finished does it?

  6. WOAH, someone tell them to stop adding images and purple, I thought the 360 was associated with green, not PURPLE!!!!

    • Green + purple = The Joker in my book.

      There’s a gag there … somewhere.

      • Aaron Greenburg is the Joker? That explains a lot.

      • could it be that you don’t use a bat, you get to be the bat, man..

      • In that case, make Peter Molyneux and Milo Batman and Robin

  7. Looks like an art painting voimeted over a screen. I never liked Kinect, but this is really starting to get on my nerves.

  8. JMLs latest product?

    • No way, JML stuff is cheap

      • but there always seems to be a solution to life this uses no controllers

  9. I really like the contrast of purple and green and the swooshes/arcs of colour (and tone) denote movement. Equally, the hardware itself doesn’t have strong enough recognition at present so it’s still very much the focus on the box.

  10. The colour scheme reminds me of my local shopping mall. In Slough. Pretty horrid then really.
