Putty Squad Announced

Classic Amiga platformer ‘Putty’ is back! Huzzah! The game is to be released by the original creators, System 3, and will be renamed “Putty Squad”, perhaps an indication of multiple putties.

The game will arrive on iPad, iPhone and PSP and a special 1080p PS3 version.

The original game was a bona fide classic of its time gaining many 90+ reviews. To play the title you control a blob of blue putty who can stretch, morph, absorb, inflate  and do everything you expect a blob of putty to do. Oh, and make coffee.

The game will be released this Autumn, check out the first screenshot from the new version above (click for big) and a video of the classic Amiga original below.

  1. Best news today! The PSN is turning out to be a real gold-mine of quality after what was a slow and shaky start for the service.

  2. Awesome! “aim putty-hee!”

  3. Seems so sterile without music. Was that always the case? I’ve just been listening to the level one music in Fuzzball. Still one of the finest “chip” tunes on the Amiga. *happy sigh*

  4. One of the games in the Putty series was called Putty Squad, so it could be a remake of that maybe?

VERY exciting news for us old Amiga owners :D

    • As a fellow Amiga owner I agree, this great news.

I used to love playing this, along with my all-time favourite, speedball

  5. I never got round to Putty on my Amiga (though I did play the demo) so this is definitely something I’m interested in. Some more of the System3 back catalogue would be great too.

  6. Man does that bring back memories, “OMG,OMG,OMG!”
I’m sure that’s all I used to do, repeatedly push that button !

  7. amiga/c64 games
when gameplay was at its best
id trade hd for those days anytime

    • system3 the co. that developed my beloved last ninja

      • Oh, just imagine a HD remake of The Last Ninja :) C’mon System 3!!

      • If ever an Amiga game needed a remake it’s undoubtably Cannon Fodder !

      • Yes! Cannon Fodder, please a remake of that!! Such an amazing game with a squad of 4 men. Happy days!

      • Oh yes!!
        Cannon Fodder FTW

War… Never has been so much fun…

      • I had been playing Cannon Fodder and K240 all last weekend. Love the Amiga emulator.

    • I wouldn’t. I loved my days on the Amiga. Hell, I still listen to music from demos, games, etc. The games were fantastic but…. back then. So much has moved on but it’s through the slow evolution of hardware so we don’t see such drastic changes in how much we enjoyed something. There’ll be a few gems, sure, but we’ve moved past so much! Then again, there’s no reason why developers can’t look at some of the classics and think “hang on, the idea behind the game is sound but let’s bring it into a world of 3D objects and stunning environments” (assuming it’ll lend itself well to such a thing. If not, PSN remake is fine too). :-)

Look at a few of the pioneering games back then and you soon realise they’re looking horrifically tired in many respects.

  8. Hmm, I played a lot of games on my Amiga, but I missed this one. Looks really nice :)

    • agreed, I missed this one somehow, who knows, if it’s worth the cash i might just have to give it a try on release

I can’t help but feel i’d love a HD remake of alex kidd, or even the old version.. just get it on the PSN :D

  9. Putty Squad was a 1994 follow-up to the original Putty. It was released for the SNES, but although a demo appeared for the Amiga it was never actually published.

  10. Never played this but what i did play on my Amiga was DIZZY EGG. Hours of fun. Hope they re release these.

    • He was just called Dizzy by the way. Yes he was an egg but it wasn’t his name.

      • Pehaps some kind of mashup between Dizzy & Chuckie Egg?
