It appears, as some predicted, that most gamers either don’t know about the technical differences between two versions of the same game, or, more importantly, don’t care.
Despite 2K themselves stating that, visually at least, the PS3 version isn’t quite as good as the 360’s, Mafia II has sold more on the Sony platform in Europe than the Microsoft one, at least according to VGChartz (via PSLS).
“There will not be highly detailed grass or large pools of blood, the cloth movement is less noticeable than, for example, the PC version, and the visual fidelity in the demo is generally representative of what you’ll see in the full game,” said Elizabeth Tobey, 2K’s Senior Manager of Interactive Marketing.
“We don’t care,” said the PS3 owning public.
According to VGChartz, who collate their own data to provide sales figures across the world, the PS3 version has sold 96,112 copies in Europe, and the Xbox 360 85,016. Both versions sit atop the charts for the last week.
We’ll have a full review, warts and all, of the game very soon.

Oh, it’s VGChartz, nevermind then

Even the people who edit the video game articles on Wikipedia have declared VGChartz as unreliable and they remove links to it on sight.

I think it looks fairly good and I’m finding the linearity a refreshing change from gta/just cause etc.

Yeah I loved this game, it was one of those games I couldn’t take out of my playstation until I completed it.

Gameplay is more important than graphics and in this respect the PS3 out does the 360.
Porcupine_I
how so?
morbo1993
I reckon it’s because of the “Betrayal of Jimmy” DLC
DRCD1
The only thing that pisses me off is bad framerate. I did notice some FPS problems with the demo but nothing to big, what worries me is that last time I’ve heard “slightly worse framerate than…” it meant the game ran at 10 FPS (SC:DA)!

I think the idea of more levels rather than extra grass goes down better with the general public.

Good for Sony, but sends a terrible Message to the Developers
DRCD1
“Hey, all you devs out there (Ubi Shangai and Platinum, mainly), do you know all that trouble you were having with the PS3, no need fixing it, we like the games broken”. Nice message. I like it.
Apnomis
Or on the flipside – “Hey developers you get more sales on the PS3 than the 360 so unless you want your reputation to go down the toilet why don’t you get your finger out of your ass make the PS3 lead development console and learn how to make the game properly for the majority of people who buy it! If Gabe Newell can do it you can do it!”
MadBoJangles
Agree with Apnomis 100%
I bought the PS3 version and so far its pretty good imo.

Touche Apnomis.
teflon
It’s not the graphics, since the majority of people who own PS3s and 360s don’t bother reading gaming news.
We saw this exact same thing with Batman:AA last year. It’s the exclusive DLC that brought more people to the PS3 version than there would have been otherwise. If it’s advertised that one version is better than another, then they will go with that one.
MiguelX69
I care.
jonwaters34
I played this game recently and have to say that I had no issues with the way that the game looked at all. Prob one of the best games released this year on the ps3.
Walker
The reason it’s sold less on xbox is because 12 year old chavs don’t appreciate the theme and probably haven’t even heard of classic films like scarface and goodfellas
Walker
It’s almost getting annoying that devs keep doing this; they make a game that appeals to smart, mature people and they focus on their precious xbox, which all 10 YO brats have, this and HAWX 2 and Fallout. and it’s PS3 and PC gamers they should be concentrating on!
Beelzie14
Ha ha … just wait until the Kinect kicks off with Hello Kitty: In The Sandpit! 360 sales will be stellar and we’ll all be kicking ourselves …
Beelzie14
BOOM way to go PS3!!

So eloquent i know :->

Indeed, why should they? A game’s worth is about more than how detailed the grass is or how much people bleed when you kill them. If people have a choice between a version of a game with considerably more gameplay content(As the PS3 version has in the add on pack included) or one with more detail in it’s grass, then unless they have a RAGING hard on for landscaping or something, then I don’t really see a choice.
Can’t help but note the bitter tone of this article though, but then that’s hardly new sadly.
