Sky Player Gets Kinect Support

Microsoft will be introducing Kinect based gesturing to the Xbox 360 Sky Player on November 10 – which is the day the device launches in the UK.

They had the following to say:

“Selecting a favourite show, changing live channels, or easily scrolling forward and back through on-demand content is all made possible by a simple wave of a hand.”

Fights over who watches what channel will now become much more epic, with sneaky gesture based channel changes, and possible breaking of hands to stop said sneakiness.

  1. Kinect-rage starts here. I can’t wait! It has a camera and the ability to upload to YouTube, right?

    • umm, aint kinect just a ps eye/eyetoy wannabe?
just like ps move is a wii wanabe but at the end, i feel dat a controller is mandatory

  2. I might buy a 360 and Kinect just for this.

    Seriously.

  3. Kinnect would probably implode with yet another holy waer to change channels!!

  4. this is awesome. If they could make it like minority report, then i would get it just for this lol

  5. Wow. Terrible idea. No controller needed to change channel? Fights galore in most houses! Couldn’t you also change channel my having a cup of tea? And what if you were watching one of sky’s adult channels whilst bashing the bishop? Would that make the volume go up and down like mad? Or perhaps you need large sweeping motions, so the tiny actions needed to bash my own bishop wouldn’t be recognised?

    • +1 and LOL

    • lol forgot about the adult channel situation haha, one minute you’ll be ‘enjoying’ a gorgeous young blonde, the next you’ll be smacked in the face with a horny granny! bad times

    • were talking about a new technological leap here, the childhood dreams of many, comparable to hover car/boards and jet packs. and you sir first and foremost consider your wanking schedule!

well you sir are just the rudest man, a scoundrel and a beast are the nice things i could say about you, and if i wasnt pulling the head right off it right now i would offer you a hand shake.

      • So your the sensitive type?

ah, i hate your kind :)

    • lol great stuff.

but in all seriousness, will waving and drinking a cup of tea affect it? Will I have to sit down like somone stuck to their chair to watch TV as to not accidentally change channel?*

*No, I will not be buying Kinnect.
** No, I will watch through the Sky box like a normal person.

  6. So stand up and wave your hands about like a loony, or slouch on the sofa lazily clicking the channel button with your finger – no offence to Kinect but I know how I prefer to view TV…

    • Agreed, it’s one thing to jump around when you are playing a game but doing so for 2 minutes just to start a film you are then going to sit and watch is a complete waste of time.

  7. This just cements in my mind the impression that Kinect is gonna be a massive novelty.
I said in a recent Move thread how it’s good that some games are not using it while others are doing so only if it’s a logical/natural control method. It really seems like Kinect is going to be an alternative to the controller that is more awkward and thus, ends up never being used.
I fail to believe it will be more ‘natural’ or anything other than awkward to use for this purpose.

    • I hope it works.. the overall idea is cool. But I do agree with you.

  8. if it’s possible to sit down, and wave your hand to move channels then that sounds great. But if you have to stand up and do certain movements, then that technology is going back before we had remotes invented.

  9. ” or easily scrolling forward and back through on-demand content is all made possible by a simple wave of a hand”
or even easier with a press of a button. :)

just don’t scratch your nose, god know’s what could happen.

  10. Your favourite team’s just about to score the greatest goal ever seen when you’re accosted by an angry wasp, and the next thing you know you’re watching Cash In The Attic… Wonderful!
