PS3 Mass Effect 2 Corrupt Save Issue Fixed

PS3 fans dreading a case of crippling ‘Shepardsaveitis‘ can rest assured, as BioWare have located the eldritch alien infestation that has resulted in some players losing hours of progress and are now frantically testing it in lieu of its submission to Sony. Likely to find its way to Sony’s verification team this Friday, there’s hope the fix will be live sometime in the following days.

From the forum post:

Patch Notes

-Fixed a crash related to memory fragmentation. This fix will also resolve the crashing that corrupted Save Games.
-Slightly improved load times and level streaming.
-Added some telemetry to better improve future titles.
-Updated some strings to fix spelling mistakes (Sorry Kaidan!)
-Fixed the picture frame in Shepard’s Cabin to accurately reflect your love interest choices in Mass Effect: Genesis.
-Fixed a rare crash in the PSN version in Shepard’s Cabin.

There is a workaround available for those not willing to wait for the update, though it is somewhat complicated (not really) and involves the moons of Saturn being in perfect alignment. Or, you know, save often. Apparently that helps.

  1. Good to know, at least now I can buy the game confidently once that puppy hits €35

    • Yeah, I’m waiting until it drops below £20.

It is a year-old game, after all.

  2. It would be nice if they fixed the load times. Not only did it have a huge instal but you still sit twiddling your thumbs travelling up one floor in the lift!!!!
I have a plasma cannon that will boil your brains so they leak from your ears but it would be quicker using the stairs than the lift on my ‘state-of-the-art’ ship – except there are no stairs.

    • Still the best dam game I ever played though :-)

    • “Slightly improved load times and level streaming.”

The term slightly is hard to quantify, of course.

      • After such a hefty install I certainly didn’t expect the long loads between sections.

      • Perhaps Bioware should pay a visit to Naughty Dog to be shown how to do loads properly

  3. That was quick.

  4. I held of playing till this was fixed, I guess I can carry on. :)

  5. Nice and rapid. Good work Bioware (though naturally the situation shouldn’t have arisen).
I can now play in full confidence. :)

  6. yay can buy again now

  7. Apparently they read what i said hear was it last month or before that don’t remember anyway i was wondering how am i going to play GT5 and ME2 at the same time so they left a huge bug in ME2 so i could play GT5 while i wait for this update sorry everybody :D

  8. Cool. Hoping to get this tomorrow (payday after all)

  9. Well at least breaking my arm, & being unable to play games for the next 4 weeks, has a flipside.

  10. the only load times that really bug me are the ones on the normandy, movin between different floors.

im loving the game, its truly a masterpiece in game design.

    Thanks bioware.

    • Yeah totally. Moving between floors sucks!

      Hopefully it’s quicker now.

I’m off snowboarding for a week, so look forward to downloading the patch when I return!
