Speaking at GameLab 2011 in Barcelona, MediaMolecule’s studio director Siobhan Reddy has said they’re “stepping away” from LittleBigPlanet for a while, to “focus on some new ideas”.
MediaMolecule were responsible for the two main PlayStation 3 LittleBigPlanet games, whilst the PSP version was handled by Sony Cambridge and the in-progress Vita version in the safe hands of Middlesborough based Double11.
It’s obviously not clear what else MediaMolecule are working on, but they’re owned entirely by Sony, so expect it to be on a PlayStation device.

I really loved LBP, and i hope MediaMolecule comes up with a good ideá and makes another great game/title! Only a few developers takes the risk of making a new inspiring game, and MM is one of them :)

Good move. Didn’t enjoy LBP2 anywhere near as much as the original as it had lost that ‘fresh’ feel

I’m really excited to see what Media Molecule can come up with, they’ve done a great job with both the LBP titles.
The LBP franchise does need a break on the PS3 to avoid becoming stale, so I’d rather not see another full LBP title on a home console until the PS4.
(That said, I’m really looking forward to the Vita version)

I think this is a good idea, lbp2 is already brilliant and will continue to be brilliant a few years down the line. If the developers wanna make something new, I say go for it, they’ve already make a product that will continue to entertain consumers for years so now would be a perfect time to do something new!
Reality Check
Yeah do a new type of game then they MUST DO another LBP for the PS3! :P Loved LBP1 + 2;)

It’s Middlesbrough, not Borough. Just sayin’. On topic, a new, non-LBP project is something I’d be keen to see. Media Molecule are clearly a talented bunch, it’d be interesting to see them work outside of the gaze of Sackboy.

It’s a sensible move. LBP2 was spawned out of them wanting to offer things in expansions, but realising that there was no way they could do them justice with DLC. You don’t get the feeling that there’s anything they can really add or drastically improve in a way that would warrant a new retail title.
So I think they should take a break from it, let the focus lie on LBP Vita next year, and then see where things stand for a PS4 version after their next game.

As long as they are still working on the sackboy/resizing/layer issue patch I’ll be happy, I haven’t been able to play any level for a couple of months now.

so, stepping away are you?, guess its up to me to push you back then. *dons marigolds*

hopefully more dlc though.
it’d be interesting if they put out a minor psn release rather than us having to wait 3 years for something major, by which time we will all want LBP3

side note: heaps of LBP/LBP2 dlc half price in the eu store right now

That’s a good point. A small team to concentrate on great DLC to keep the community happy but the rest of MM enjoying something new. Exciting times, I hope.
