You’ve got to love employees, don’t you. I mean, without job adverts, CVs and disgruntled ex-employees there would be a lot less to run around thinking up reasons for and making logical leaps towards. It’s fun, even if it is a little bit unscientific.
The latest loose-lipped employee to let something slip is Iain McCaig, a well respected concept artist who is currently working with Respawn Entertainment on their first game. You probably remember that Respawn Entertainment are the studio that West and Zampella set up after their very public falling out with everyone’s favourite pantomime villain and extremely successful executive, Bobby Kotick.
When questioned at the Develop conference which is ongoing in Brighton at the moment, McCaig said that he was “having the most fun working with Respawn Entertainment right now” and that he hates “that [he] can’t show you guys what [he’s] doing there until 2015”.
Which, rightly or wrongly, the internet rumour mill is leaping on as confirmation that Respawn’s first game won’t be released until 2015. I would say that’s a possibility, those guys are no stranger to huge retaining budgets and would doubtless have demanded they be given enough time to do their first project properly.
If it is true that their first title won’t be released until 2015, I would go a step further and assume that it will be on new hardware.
See, assumptions are fun!

…which would lend to the rumour that some devs already have hands on next-next-gen platforms…

I would assume by what he said that he’s contracted to 2015? That could include one game or 4.

By the way, you need to put an excerpt on the story ;)
colossalblue
That’s possible. Hence me not writing the story the way some are: “OMG, Ex Infinity Ward guys not doing anything until 2015!!! Boom! Megaton! Exclusive!” and so on…
Because I like to speculate but I don’t like to mislead ;)
Oh, and yes, I also like to forget to fill my excerpts…
nemesisND1derboy
Wasn’t directing that at you dude :) I know exactly what you mean!
Annoys me when other sites blow things out of proportion and take statements in a completely different context than in which they were said, either through idiocy or just hit baiting.
colossalblue
Oh, I know you weren’t having a go at me. I was just taking the opportunity to have a little moan :)

2015 puts it 100% next-gen territory, of course it could be a very late this-gen title, something like God Of War2 on PS2, but given that it will probably be a hardcore FPS and the hardcore will be on the next-gen it’s doubtful

If they are creating a new engine – which they almost certainly are – 4-5 years seems a fair time.

Well if they are having to create a whole new engine and build everything from scratch, I can see it taking a long time, but probably not this long.

Misleading I suspect. Even Respawn won’t have the budget to pour money into R&D for 5 years straight without any ROI.
billsmugs
As he’s a concept artist, what he’s working on now could be Respawn’s next game, hence not showing till 2015. I can’t really see how they could fund the company for 4 or 5 years without releasing a game.

Seems too far off for their first game IMO
