First FW 2.5 Details

Screen grabs to be part of the next PS3 firmware, apparently.

According to C&VG, the next PS3 firmware (version 2.50) will feature the option to take screen grabs.  Hopefully this will be full resolution shots, not the scaled ones as with the Toro game and MGS 4, and that you’ll be able to save them to your XMB.  Might be nice for screenshot wars, anyway.

    2.5 should be a pretty big milestone release and give us something reasonably major, like home or life

    not some feature that 99% of people aren’t going to use

    although any development of the firmware is good i suppose

    I would have thought 2.5 would, being a fairly major revision, have something bigger than screen grabs but Sony seem so out of touch these days, perhaps they thing it’s just what we are all crying out for?
    Feels more like they needed to fix some bugs/close some holes so tacked on a crappy feature to make the update seem like something we might actually want

    So Trophies and in-game XMB is 2.4 however screen-grabs are 2.5??? Surely it should be home or at minimum Life with Playstation. Screen grabs are OK but not something i’m going to get excited about.

    Why would 2.50 need to be something bigger than screen capturing? New features always get a version number ending in zero, it would only be 2.4x if it was a patch for a bug or security exploit. That’s the way they’ve always done it.

      Yep, no reason… It just seems a crappy feature for what could be a major milestone, what we going to have for version 3.0? the ability to rotate and crop these screen grabs? no thanks

    This is most likely one feature of many. They never said this is all 2.5 has to offer.

    At which point were we told that screenshots were the only thing coming in the firmware? Wait – never? Oooh, shut up complaining then.

    New features are new features, stop complaining about the rate at which they’re coming ¬¬

    At which point were we told anything official about FW 2.5, there is no point bitching at anything when we dony know anything.

    Surely the whole point of being able to make comments on a news/blog site is actually making comments

    TSA wouldn’t be much of a site if people didn’t make comments

    Of course any firmware developments and new features are good, but the article talks about screen grabbing, therefore it makes sense that any comments talk about screen grabbing

    I may be miles off the mark here, but isn’t that the point of the whole site, No ones threatening to dismember SCEE employees or even calling for them to be sacked (there’s a place for that, and it’s semi-official and rarely updated) the comments are on the content of the article…

    …pretty much like follows any article

    ps. And if it’s from CVG we all know it’s probably not true anyway

      Its not the comments that make the site what it is cc_star, its the writers.

      Making comments is one thing, but bitching about someone elses comment is another, especially when whats being commented on isn’t even official.

        without writers the site would obviously be nothing, the style the humour and the feel of the site is made by the writers.

        Readers obviously gravitate towards a site which shares their ideals, humour they like the look of.

        If you like bitching and complaining and dismembering SCEE employees there’s a place for you on the web

        If you like the humour and frequent updates etc, etc… there’s TSA but without the chance to participate it wouldn’t be able to maintain the following it quickly built up

        commenting on the contents of an article are an established practice look back through the hundreds of articles so far to see

        Anyway to avoid going round in circles
        Firmware update = good thing
        Screen grabbing = a pretty shitty feature I’d find useless

        and thats my comment

      I was simply commenting on the idiocy of complaining that the new feature we’re getting isn’t as good as other features we could get in the future, just in a rather straightforward way (which I apologise for). Giving us more features now won’t change when we get the other, bigger features – just be thankful we’re getting new features, surely that’s a good thing?

    i dont know about you guys but i would like screen grabs. the ammount of times a funny random glitch comes up in my game and my friends never believe me and when i get a camra it come out too bright and using the camra on mgs4 takes too long so i want it

    a feature is a feature in my book..and to complicate matters i dont dispute it will be the ‘only’ feature which features within in this feature update feature me thing…so feature off!…er…

    I could see screengrabs being useful at times. I mean, a new feature is a new feature.. right? Hopefully there’ll be some more goodness announced later on? Unless 2.5 mainly contains loads of hidden, architectural changes or something. I’ll be quiet now.

    I tried to share a wallpaper downloaded from the JAP store to a friend. and it was complaining that maximum size limit was reached so the file could not be attached. Ofcourse no mention about the maximum size..

    Every FW update I check If I can send the wallpaper, but until now no luck.

    So if these are (Full) HD screen captures good luck sending it with your PS3 to your friends!!!

    Good find 3shirts! When every PS3 owner can feel the force in their pants, Sony will win the console war. That, and no one will play COD4 ever again due to snipers shooting everyone in the groin. Good times!
