Oh my, not to good then for the Playstation 3 exclusives. Resistance 2 only 6/10, that’s awful for such a big title. The massively hypeed COD5 doesn’t fair any better with the same score. So it’s either Tom Clancy’s Endwar or go and buy a 360 with Gears 2 if you want some quality gaming over the crimbo period. Me..I’ll just stick with that beta I’m playing, it’s even keeping me away from that sackboy game….thingy ma jig planet!

Endwar looks very shit! Too tactical
November 14th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
For fox sake, can we please have some consistency with the Resistance 2 scores? For every 9 out of 10 it gets, it seems to get another 6 out of 10! Does anyone know for sure if this is worth buying or not?
edgefusion Says:

From what I’ve played of the beta I’d say no.
cc_star Says:

I thought the beta sucked, more than any other PS3 game I’d ever played.
Roarster Says:
November 14th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Yeah, I heard a lot of bad things about the beta but then looking at Metacritic there seem to be tons of 9 out of 10 reviews (and a few with even better scores). I could understand the discrepancies for a game like Mirrors Edge which understandably is getting a wide variety of scores but I’d expected a straightforward game like to R2 to score fairly consistently.
I’m undecided between picking up R2 or CoD:WaW though both seem to be picking up widely varying scores. Maybe I’l just wait for Killzone 2…

Get CoD, the storyline is quality and the online is top notch, i would give it a 10/10 ten times out of ten lol
November 14th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
BAH HUMBUG!
Edge have always been massive scrooges.
Only problem is I trust their scores most of the time. :/
MERRRY CLUSTERF**K!!
November 14th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
But animal crossing gets a 7 and the 2 biggest non-PS3 games both get 9?
Rubbish.

Wdf is animal crossing, it gets a better score than cod? either its an amazn game or the people rating these games are assholes!
November 14th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
to me that list of reviews is a god send for my wallet.
every score I read under 7/10 my wallet does another backflip for joy…. its a very talented wallet
November 14th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
ps3 exclusives rarely fair well with edge. i dont like there reviews anyway. it obvious gear 2 will get a good score, i havnt played it but it looks good. but left 4 dead…a 9. are they serious!?!? its got a fun co-op mode, but thats about it. is that all it takes to get a good score these days!?
dairylee Says:
November 14th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
I think you’re forgetting about the Versus mode in Left 4 Dead which is a lot more enjoyable than the Co-Op mode which in itself is great fun to play. So if all you need to get a good score is good solid gameplay, with well implemented multiplayer, and some of the best co-op play any game has to offer then that sounds fair enough to me.
cc_star Says:

GoW2 is the same as Gow, but takes the bigger and better approach rather than anything new
n_duffy_91 Says:
November 19th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
i heard it was the same too, i would much rather play a realistic story game rather than 1 with aliens, no offense R1 and R2
November 14th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
WTF? That’s all I’m saying.
November 14th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Hell…Resistance 2 got a 6. Socom a 5. Damn.
November 14th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
EDGE SMEDGE
November 14th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Why are these scores completely different from anything else on the net? CoD - 6?!? But as usual Edge are brown nosing Microsoft.

Over recent years I’ve always thought Edge had a pro-Sony edge (ahem) to its prose. I’m not suggesting a sinister bias or what-not, but that’s the feeling I always got from their features dealing with the big 3.
Anyway, Resistance’s 6 is probably like our 6 for Pacific Rift. Some people are obviously loving Pacific Rift, so I wouldn’t be too concerned that R2 is going to be pap.
November 14th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
I think the obvious advice would be for people to ignore Edge if you think these scores are a bit skewed and trust the TSA reviews when they come, at least with TSA you can talk to the person who reviewed the game and get some justification for their scoring if you don’t agree with it.
We’re great.
ShovellyJoe Says:
November 14th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
What score would you say is appropriate for Resistance 2 then? (Question aimed at all TSA guys) I’d buy it regardless but even without playing I can say it’s worth more than a 6.
nofi Says:
November 14th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
I’ve personally not played the full game yet, so you won’t get a score from me until the review is out, sorry.
How you can say it’s worth more than a 6 WITHOUT EVEN PLAYING IT completely turns my brain inside out.
colossalblue Says:
November 14th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
I don’t think anyone can give a reliable score without having at least a good few days with the finished product.
I thought that the beta was rubbish but that has more to do with the other people in the multiplayer than the software itself.
November 14th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Ditto dat! Either try the game via demo urself and make a judgement or wait for more reviews’n check metacritic.
November 14th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
Sometimes Edge seem to take the public hype into account when rating games. If it’s had too much, they seem to feel they have to balance it out with their score. Personally I thought the Mirrors Edge demo was great and a really fresh idea. I know that was only a demo, but they’d have to have really dropped a bollock in the rest of the game for it to be only worth a 5
colossalblue Says:
November 14th, 2008 at 4:56 pm

colossalblue Says:
November 14th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
The game was worse than the demo? I thought the demo was pretty awful.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Looks like the magazine got out bed on the wrong side from those scores. They are quite different from other scores that are around. Never been into Edge, always thought it was a bit up it’s own ass!
cc_star Says:
November 14th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Yep I’d agree with that last statement
Use metacritic, until real life gamers get chance to thoroughly play through it and post a review on TSA
November 14th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
I have Resistance 2!! It’s great. They have improved the game in every way. I would easily give it a 9… and at the very least an 8.5 maybe. A 6 is a slap in the face. I would love to know there reasoning behind it. If you do some digging on the web, most reviewers were very pleased with it.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
ive always found edge a tad biased against the PS3 but maybe thats the reviewers opinion but resistance 2 must be more than a 6/10, ive played it and read other reviews and it has too be at least an 8, i agree with socom review though, the game needs fixed BADLY
November 14th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
Mirrors edge…5!!!??
November 14th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
the best thing to do is trust your own judgement
The only time I haven’t was for trophy whoring !
If you liked FoM then buy it’s sequel
If you liked CoD series , buy it’s sequel
If you like a change of gameplay , buy ME
Same goes for everything else , I’ve seen plenty non-biased reviews that say R2 just beats GoW2 but …… It does beat it ! So for EDGE to say that makes me SERIOUSLY QUESTION THEIR FUNDING !!!!!! xxx
November 14th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Those scores seem to have a real XBox bend.
At the very least R2 is on Par with Gears. Now SOCOM may not be the most beautiful game, but I wouldn’t give it a 5.
November 14th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Hmm i’m really a bit worried about R2 now, it was going to be my big Christmas day game but 6/10???? Edge gave Kane and Lynch 6/10..I think there is the strange internet phenomenon of insomniac games being rated badly maybe because they are PS3 exclusive. Edge get scores really wrong and seem biased against Ps3 like when they gave God Of War2 a 7. Edge are quite full of themselves. I rate them QUITE LOW.
It looks like my biggest fear for R2 may have truth in it, I have zero interest in online FPS I only like story mode or campaign as it is more usually known as now, i always think just how great games like R2 could have been if Insomniac had been able to put all their effort into the story mode instead of wasting all that time and effort on online. I dont see any point in online fps running around shooting anonymous people for no reason. Its boring.I rate the original Resistance story mode very highly I really enjoyed it and I constantly see people slagging it off on the internet so i will ignore the negetives and get it anyway, and take a risk, its not like im paying for it. I cannot believe that Insomniac have messed it up so badly unless all the effort went into the online part… OH i hate online!
bigwhiteyeti Says:
November 17th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Resistance 2’s campaign is even better than the first, without being drawn out too long. It’s graphics are upped in every way imaginable and boss battles like the Kraken and Leviathan are epic. Believe me, while the online is awesome, the story mode stands by itself easily.
Added bonus: no annoying narrator or crappy picture-based cutscenes!
November 14th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Here’s my review
TSA - 10
Metacritic - 10
Edge - 4
November 14th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
Well, f*ck them, I just went out and bought CoD5. HA!
November 14th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Wow odd that resistance everywhere else even ps3 hating ign gave it a ten, glad i couldn’t give two shits about boring old stuffy edge.
November 15th, 2008 at 12:33 am
EDGE’s opinion < My opinion. That about sums it all up.
November 15th, 2008 at 3:21 am
NFS - 3? How could they have messed it up so much?
November 15th, 2008 at 8:34 am
i think its coming to a time where we should give up on ps3. im not goign to yet. but i buy all my games for ps3 and dont buy xbox games. i feel cheated.
November 15th, 2008 at 9:09 am
I’d feel cheated when I pay €65 for a game and then pay again to play it online.
November 15th, 2008 at 10:34 am
Bloody elitist EDGE, as the others have said up top, i think that they sometimes fall for their own hype, ner ner, industry standard etc…and they charge a fortune for what is essentially a very boring read..i like a bit of humour injected into my reviews (hence me swinging by TSA for that) and not stuffy, overlong diatribes on the idiosycrancies of video games…they are the conservative party of reviews (whereas TSA is the monster raving mad party)
sod ‘em, i dont trust ‘em… can i get a ‘word up’ ?
November 17th, 2008 at 10:12 am
I used to be a huge proponent of Edge. Monthly subscriber - the works. Then I started to detect the usual theme of haughtiness started to really go overboard.
Then there are the review scores which can be sometimes baffling. This is the magazine that gave 6/10 to GTAIII and Heavenly Sword. To me these games were not “average” which is what this mark in Edge accounts for. HS is by no means a perfect game; its length, the sameness of the combat (despite the number of combos), the loading times issue which is almost criminal (not being able to skip through some of the same movie clips you have to watch over and over again) but all these issues do not detract from the fact that the game is fun, has wonderful production values, amazing animations and a well told story. 6/10? The LEAST this game should get is a 7. I’d personally give it an 8.
The fact is: Edge is becoming more and more irrelevant. In five years I can’t even see it selling half its current distribution as more and more people are getting their gaming news (and reviews) online. As someone else says here: it’s also handy to be able to comment to the reviewer and get a response.
I’m disappointed with the 6/10 for R2. I had problems with the beta but I thought it was fun enough. As for Mirror’s Edge getting a 5/10 - that just boggles the mind. I haven’t played it yet but I know a few people who have and have said: “Yes, it’s not perfect but it’s great fun. A nice departure from the normal FPS format.” How does that equate to “below average”?
Edge is officially out of favour in my house now. It’s been heading this way for a while and I just want to say that it’s not just the bizarre scores that are turning me off the magazine. The articles have also become really tired and hackneyed. Ah well, it had a good run …
November 17th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
In my opinion has become an Xbo360 hype engine. It gave 9 to Gears of War 2, which I played. And beat. in 6 hours. It is undoubtedly a good game, but it felt like more of the same from Gears 1, with minor visual and technical improvements.
Resistance 2, on the otherhand, scored a 6. This is complete bullshit. Resistance 2 looks just as good, if not better than Gears 2, has a more interesting storyline (aliens in WWII! Awesome!) and has some of the most innovative gameplay I’ve ever seen, with 60 player online skirmishes and the co-op campaign. While it’s not perfect, I certainly would rate it higher than Gears, which was essentially a remake of the first game.
Disappointment.
