Japanese Home Betas Out

Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 9:56 am

News

If you downloaded the Home Beta theme a while back from the PSN Store, check your email, as the official Beta invites for the Japanese version of Home are now hitting inboxes.  Naturally, it’ll help if you speak Japanese, live in Japan and are actually Japanese, otherwise you’re not really getting the most out of it and running around shouting “DOES NE1 SPEAK ENGLISH?” won’t really get you very far.

Still, news is news.

I got an invite in my gmail this morning. Woohoo! :) But, as pointed out in the article, Im not Japanese, nor do I speak it. :( Still, perhaps I can fumble my way around until a UK-ish one turns up..

Hmm, saying that, would installing the JP version cause problems further down the line when I try to use the UK version..? :

I also got in and, I got that same email as you with the Namco Classics… Or whatever they are. And, I believe from my depiction of the picture, it is Dig Dug although those look nothing like g’s.

There is this really neat looking room with a sort of developer studio upstairs and a giant metal fox looking figure holding a TV… What is that room? It is to your right as you exit your apartment if you want to check it out.

Home really is a bummer when you can’t read anything…

Also, I can’t type anything in English… The keyboard that pops up is all in Japanese.

Here’s a picture of the Fox thing holding the TV:

Although the code doesnt work in EU, it does work in the JP store.. I downloaded home from the JP store and installed it, but went in using my EU account. It seems to have worked, cos I got a EULA from eu.playstation. Havent gone any further with it yet (only the avatar setup page), but so far its looking like its working, and all is in english too.. :)

The Home beta seems to be unlinked to the region from which the code came. I got onto the JP beta, and it links up to the US server and automatically displays all information in English. The JP site has a totally different square, though, which I think looks better than the US site. As for Namco Classics, it can also be accessed in the Game Space area in Home JP when installed. If you play the classic games, you can earn special items, including Namco theme t-shirts (retro Pacman t-shirt!) and actual replica arcade cabinets for your apartment.

Incidentally, does anyone know when the marketplace will have items for sale again?
